Both candidates are good enough to handle the consul seat. Apolyton is lucky to have not one but two replacements for MrWIA. Of course, I had to choose one, and he was Arnelos.
About tkmjcw, I just don't know him well enoguh to tell.

As copied from the campaign thread:
Well, I'm finally running for Consul. While I've certainly desired to run for the office before, this is the first opportunity where I have both the time to fulfill the responsibilities of the office and I won't (if successful) be dislodging someone from the office that I felt had done a perfectly good job and didn't need to be removed.
I was certainly tempted to run when the game started and I know a number of you asked me to do so at that time, but I simply didn't have the time myself. Having established that I know when I don't feel I can fulfill the time commitment and turning down the chance to run, you can have confidence that I would not be running this time unless I was entirely serious.
As many of you know, I have twice before served as an acting or "Deputy" Consul for temporarily absent Consul and I am thankful for those opportunities. I would now like the opportunity to become a full Consul myself, as was my intention when I used those experiences as chances to learn how the organization system here worked differently than my previous executive experiences and how I might help to improve it myself.
As for what I would bring to the job, I believe I have done a good job as an executive the previous times this community (the SPDG and the ISDG) has given me the opportunity before and I'd like to take the opportunity to now serve you as Consul. I would think that my record demonstrates that I have acted fairly and responsibly in such positions and that, above all, while I certainly am one to encourage debate and discussion and I certainly will push my own viewpoint, I have shown repeatedly in the past that I ardently work toward transparency in government operation and the defense of popular will and the rules. There are, of course, some decisions I'm willing to make because I have been entrusted to make them on behalf of others. That said, I will admit that my instincts are probably tilted a bit more toward allowing additional discussion and debate where necessary rather than making overly hasty decisions on my own.
One thing that I am certainly attached to when it comes to government in democracy games is transparency. Without transparency in what government is doing and why, a "democracy" quickly devolves. My commitment to ensuring that the membership of the game knows and understands what its elected leaders are doing and why can be seen rather plainly in my record. For reference, I will link you to threads where this has been demonstrated:

The thread I think that might be the most useful for those looking at this race is the following:

I remain, to this day, touched by what donegeal said about me in that thread. My apologies for not running last time.
As for my stance on the spying part of potential cheating in this game and where that issue went when the game started, I'd like to link you to the thread where this team was finally brought to fruition by the good work on Beta and where early discussion from the U.N. was discussed. I remain thankful for what Beta and MrWIA said in that thread:

Finally, as a parting note for this campaign statement, I'd like to link you to the last "speech" thread I did at the outset of this great war as an attempt at inspiration. Let it not be forgotten that despite the recent potential cheating flap, what was said in that thread remains true and you, the people, have done much to overcome the challenges we have faced together.

Thank you and it is my hope that you vote for me for Consul.

Whitebandit challanged me to choose a canidate based not on the MOW issue, but on which canidate would be a better Consul.
While I disagree with those who seem to insist that the MOW position and being in the middle of a war should not be a factor what-so-ever, I will overlook that for the moment.
I've been around since the beginning of the CivIII SPDG, back when Trip was the very first President, and also was around when Arnelos was President later on, after Trip had retired.
My thoughts:
Trip is a fantastic leader of men and general. He singlemindedly can take up most any task, present it well, argue it forever, and fight for whatever cause he believes in. Few people have the energy and enthusiasm and drive that he does. Even when I disagree with Trip, I admire him for his determination and his convictions.
Trip does well when shouldered with the burden of leadership alone. He can be trusted to carry out a major project (like starting up a new Demo Game). However, his downside is that he doesn't collaborate well. He's a leader, not a politician. He's more of a lobbiest/crusader than a careful decision maker.
Arnelos is, in my opinion, more of the latter. While he can argue a point with you endlessly, he seems to excel more at creating compromise, gathering consensus, and making different parties feel they are a part of the decision.
Given that our government needs more team builders and consensus builders than leaders right now, I feel that Arnelos is a better fit to work with the other two Consuls, and with the Ministers.
Thus, Arnelos gets my vote.
