Let's take the hut before they do. If it's barbarians we shouldn't have trouble defeating them and they might take the worker, as you said.

I say build a granary in the capital so we get settlers faster.

I vote for warrior in Sugar Town.

Let's send the southern warrior southwest so we don't get surprised by anyone who might be there.

Agreed.

I want to start the Granary immediately, but building a Warrior in Sugar Town for security rather than the extra Worker....then probably another Warrior.

We have faster Workers than the others anyway, and once we have completed our initial road network giving us excellent maneuverability between our core towns, we can then start to mine the BGL's and the second Sugar.

Once our core is secure and we have enough exploring Warriors, I'm looking at a Granary in Sugar Town or Aquarius.

The 'enemy' warrior is wounded and headed back to its capital. I say we strike now. It has become a veteran through its fight with the barbarians and will be difficult to kill later, especially if it's in a city. We are on a mountain and it's on a plain so we have the advantage. Strike, strike, strike!!!!!

that is indeed true. However, what do we do the next turn, with likely a damaged warrior against a rushed warrior in thier capital?

I am not sure this is a good time to strike.

Hmmm, very interesting situation here. It looks like both their capital and the second town are undefended.

So, do we take a chance and try to kill the Warrior, leaving the capital exposed? Should we double back and attack the town we know is undefended? Or should we continue exploring peacefully?

Ok, I'd like some input here on this very important moment in the history of Desolation Row.

  1. Attack Warrior - risking losing to him, but if successful we expose a defenceless capital. Chances are they will rush a Warrior next turn or move a nearby Warrior inside the capital.

  2. Double back towards their second town (Nirvana?) - probably still size 1, and our Warrior will now get there before theirs.

  3. Continue exploring north or north-west, keeping the Euphoricans as our friends.

It seems Masuro is in favour of attacking.

Though I would like to attack the capital, I would prefer to move back towards their second town. However, I am still unsure of the wisdom of making such an early enemy in a demogame, which as Trip has explained, is not a particularly good idea.

Comments please. I shall delay playing the turn until at least one other team member comments.

I suggest we attack their new undefended city since it is less risk. This will really set them back and they will be less of a threat later in the game.

One other apart from Masuro, that is....since he had already commented previously and I'd like at least 3 opinions before making such an important decision

By the way, I happened to chat with Snoopy this morning and it seems the Euphoricans are none too pleased with us popping that hut and unleashing a horde of Barbarians upon them

Let us assume we'd defeat the warrior if we attacked. They will either rush a warrior in the capital (which from F11 screen is size 2) or move one in from behind. The river there means we'd be safe from counter attack that turn. However, then we are stuck, we can either attack the capital with what is likely to be a wounded warrior, or we can head back to the mountain and we've gained nothing and lost the peace.

If we head back towards their defenceless city, (move 2) they will likely move the wounded warrior down towards it, to the square 1-1 from our warriors current position, but we can get there first.

Seeing as this move doesn't involve a border crossing next turn, it gets my vote as we can always back out.

I vote Move Warrior 2.

Will we be declaring war the turn we move in, if so I will need to draft a declaration!

Well in the absence of any views to the contrary, it seems the consensus is to move back south towards the undefended second town with a view to attacking it, keeping out of their territory.

I will play the turn when I get back home, which won't be until tomorrow afternoon probably (another 15 or so hours, or more).

Turn played, strategy as previously advised.

Switched capital Granary back to Warrior, as growing next turn and we need MP.

[EDIT: also moved the labourer in Aquarius from the Fish to the BGL, so as not to waste food on the turn we are growing, while generating an extra shield towards our Warrior build]

Now we must decide for next turn....do we enter Euphorican territory with our Warrior, intending to raze their town? By retracing our steps towards the town, they must already be suspicious....though we could say we wanted to explore the southern regions of their lands.

Opinions please.

It seems risky. If the attack fails then they'll be extremely paranoid. If we play nice then we'll have a good opportunity to bring our Immortals to bear, which will certainly give us a much greater military advantage.

Trip seems to be against attacking.
Masuro is in favour
Moonbars expressed a desire to attack but qualified it by saying we don't really achieve much.
I remain ambivalent.

Seems like a consensus is far, far away

Sabre, Solomwi - comments?

On another note, you will see next turn that I actually fortified the Warrior instead of popping the hut near the Gems, since he had previously been damaged down to 2HP by a barb. Overly cautious perhaps (given the hut is on a mountain), but I'd prefer to pop the hut with a healthy Warrior rather than risk losing a valuable unit at this stage of the game.

I don't think the attack can fail, as that's an empty city.

However, we don't gain any direct benefit - destroying that city isn't the same as capturing it, and isn't the same as if it allowed us access to something, or was part of a larger war - all it does is set them back by one city. We'd need to follow it up with a proper war against spears, and we don't have iron or a barracks to our name.

This might be enough to cripple them, or it might be enough to cause them to make a load of archers and come for revenge.

Right, that's what I was trying to convey in my message.

It could fail if they have other units in the area.

Something I've learned well when playing against other humans - if you want to attack them, be prepared for a vicious fight to the bitter end. From when a war starts its a race to see who can squish the other guy. And if you approach that situation without the proper caution then it can be very... bad.

Put an end to popups!

I've been out of town since last Thursday, so it's a bit late, but I concur with Trip. I can't wait to get the bloodletting started, either, but we're in no position to sustain it, especially if the RNG didn't cooperate. Against the AI, an attack is a no-brainer, but not against a human.

i'm sorry for my sudden quietening. it's my fourth week at my new job and i still am nowhere near to be settled in. i can barely cope with my PBEMs (of which all are quite advanced and require long micromanagement).

about the euphoric war: i favour the agressive idea although this will probably ruin the chances for both civs if we don't get peace soon after the attack. as it's a size-1-city, we won't be able to take it (we would not be able to keep it anyhow) so maybe this is not a sensible idea.

but then... war is more fun and it is not always about winning

It looks like I don't have the numbers for an attack on their defenceless second town.

however, I would still like to enter their territory and wander through, just to put the wind up them and also to show them that we refrained from attacking when we could have.

Any objections?
