Tired of ads?

I'm in favour of an attack but I guess I'll have to go with the majority.
So, what next?

Oh I dunno....I'm pretty bullish about our ability to defend ourselves given the Industrious nature of our Workers and our pretty good starting land.

By contrast, Euphorica (China, also Industrious) do not even have their connecting road network complete between their initial 3 towns.

Put an end to popups!

Remember also, that the nature of this particular DG is not "build a huge economy then attack with overwhelming strength", it is more along the lines of outright nastiness and early warfare.

In other words, it's likely to be a short game anyway (especially with CIV on the way)

Indeed. And if it doesn't work out, so what? Other democracy games will come along. One of the reasons I joined this game was to be an extreme aggressor, something I rarely do in normal games.

For better or worse, we have entered their territory.

we have also discovered the Lost Boys, annoyingly close to the south.

Capital build switched to a Granary. I suggest next turn after the 2 Warriors are completed we switch to at least one Barracks and start with Archers.

There's a difference between an aggressor and going headlong into a war with no units better than a Warrior, hardly any army, no Barracks, only one city above size 1 and no plan.

I don't think we can pass up this opportunity to seriously damage our rivals. With the loss of a city, their production will be seriously reduced and we need not fear a large enemy army coming down on us.
And we can always ask for peace after we take that undefended city.

Tired of ads?

When you do something like that you make a game-long enemy. Immediately and forever their goal becomes to cause you as much harm as possible. Peace is not an option, and you have to expect total war until one of the teams is dead.

Haven't you heard? we've now got 2 towns above size 1 ....but still no plan

But I reluctantly agree with Trip....this is probably not the time to mount an invasion - I just wanted to see how they reacted when we moved into their territory knowing they couldn't defend themselves (unless they have a Warrior in that fog behind the town ).

Another rationale is to test out the skills of our Foreign Minister

On the other hand, we all know that in PBEM your first core cities should be no more than 3 tiles from the capital and connecting up roads is the first priority.

They have violated both of these maxims, and therefore.....forgive me......deserve to be attacked

After all, by settling 4 tiles from their capital instead of 3, they have expanded closer to us, and therefore by extension have taken land that should rightly be ours (however small).

This in itself could be used as a justification for war!

Of course, but I thought it was our goal to make enemies (one at a time) and engage in total war. Thus our team name and skull and crossbones symbol.
Or have I been playing Rome:Total War too much lately?

Like I said, I have no problem with bashing heads, but I would have preferred to set things up a bit more. At least to build some Immortals or even Archers. Right now it's a coin toss as to who wins. Yeah, we take out a city, but what if they have two great city sites and resources while we don't? There's too much up in the air.

Agreed. I once attacked Trip with a lone archer, but that was in the knowledge that I had 3 vet archers a few turns away from him at the time. And it was a do-or-die situation - my start meant I *had no option other than to attack* We are not in the same situation now, we have very little to gain by attacking that city, and a lot to loose.

Yes, and I have no problem with gearing up for war. But it's too late for an early rush, and to early for imortals.

By the time we have built 2 reg. archers and a spear, they will have a barracks and a vet spear in their capital. Then it's going to be messy.

Wait for immortals, built cities until that point, try and Vet our warriors on barbs, upgrade.. Crush - Golden Age, more Immortals, more Crushing.

archers - What are we going to do with them?

Well I said Archers on the premise that we're going to piss-off the Euphoriscans. If they (or someone else for that matter) appear on our doorstep to attack, it is likely to be with an Archer or a Warrior, possibly accompanied by a Spearman. In such a case, I believe attack would be the best form of defence, and we should have 2-attack Archers ready to fire rather than 2-defence Spearmen ready to sit passively and take the fire. I do of course recognise that there are defensive bonsues to take into account that can make all the difference, but I was favouring taking the initiative in such a sutuation.

But I could be convinced otherwise

I was afraid we'd find somebody close in the south. The whole situation re: attacking looks good at first glance, but could very easily go south. I'm all in favor of the buildup, because I don't think we're going to be able (even if we wanted ) to keep it peaceful long enough to get a horde of immortals.
