...how about doing a run through the first Codex quest with low-level chars at some point? Nameless will be doing it solo, of course, but I've got a couple of other low-level characters that I could throw in there. (To wit: my dumb-as-a-brick Lizardman Ranger/Fighter.)

I can't do evenings unfortunately, only nights and mornings on weekdays (10-11ish pm to 3pm, minus a bit of sleeping time which doesn't amount to much anymore).

But time to go to Old Gnoma again, need to go to the place with the things and maybe try the other place with the other things.

Oh yeah, I was going to ask some stupid general questions... if I can remember what they are...

Do sneak attack bonuses stack? If a character was Blackguard and Rogue for example.

Had several more but I can't remember them any more so meh.


Edit: While I'm here I may as rant about things. I was going to rant about Twizzler Pass being a minor annoyance, but instead I'll rant about how cheap death magic is. [Insert lengthy string of asterix here.] 250+ hp gone in an instant, my greater necromancy ring having not helped enough

Who's casting death magic at you? Hmmm... Yeah its nasty stuff, but there are some ways to avoid it. Some items protect vs death magic and some spells to, like Death Ward and Shadow Shield. Alternatively get your Fortitude saves up or use a decoy. Finger of Death will kill that summoned Dire Badger just as nicely as it kills you. Oh, and Twizzler Pass is GREAT. Nice xp levels 5-12 and then a fantastic testing ground for all your new spells, weapons and feats at higher levels. Making giants explode

Failing to avoid the death magic is clearly a case of not being ninja enough, which is what I will try next time. My fortitude save was 17 last time I looked. Plus I had the ring which gives +4 saves against death magic. Btw, what is that spell anyway, the one with the black and yellow swirling effect? It's a nifty effect, I just hate seeing my characters standing on it all the time


And Twizzler Pass is too crowded to sneak through easily and so crowded as to make hacking through tedious. But it's either that or risk the rust monsters


How does one play a solo wizard/sorcerer? How do you keep the bad guys off of you while you cast spells? Summon cannon fodder?


Oh yeah, Verkin Arkinner requests that the dead stop being such greedy bastards. You can't take it with you so treasure is for the living. So share and stuff those curse spells in your ear.

Early on you can use summons, if you don't want to team with a warrior or equivalent class. Early on your dmg from spells is not great, and you are better off focusing on buffs to yourself and your companions. Once you reach level 9ish you start to draw level with the damage warriors can dish out, you are just a bit squishy still. This doesn't matter if you team. If you insist on soloing it's pretty nasty until the later levels.

Once you get in the 20s with all the shields (and damaging spells like death armour) you can cast on yourself you are virtually indestructible from damage reduction for most foes, despite your AC and HP. If things get hairy there are many items with haste for running for sorc/wizard, and you can always invis yourself.

Even later with still spell and a fighter/paladin level you can wear full plate armour to increase AC. You don't need the boots slots so you can wear Con + as high as poss to help with HP. With all your defences (tonnes of shields, epic mage armour, epic warding, premonition) at this stage you deal far more damage than a vast percentage of builds, with virtually no drawbacks. You can do what you want.

You don't need to - firewalls block inbound connections. You can't host a game, but you can join.

If you wish to host you can use port redirection to ensure your router sends through data sent on the key game ports to your machine.

Nonsense, you were doing the perfect tanking job - stand up front, get all the monsters bunched up round you, take the hits and keep the baddies occupied and off my back while I blow the crap out of them. There's no way that either of us would have got to the boss and killed him solo. Together we (nearly) walked it. And in a party its ok to die. I have some characters that die LOTS. People learn to carry masses of Raise Dead with some of my 6 CON elven mages Partly my fault for being stingy with my level 4 slots, or I'd have stoneskinned you for extra survival

I needed to have clarity potions quickslotted but I didn't and I get frustrated easily when I get totally pasted when I could have attempted to avoid or lessen it (hindsight and all). Plus other personal issues.

Anyway, I shouldn't have abandoned you down there, but I wasn't able to hold it together and figured you'd be able to make it out without me (incorrect assumption, of course). Sorry.

Verkin isn't really a tank character as it happens, more of a buffed rogue really. I was thinking of making pure tank for my next build, but I don't know if I'll get around to it anymore.

Tank characters.

No role-playing fun (unless you enjoy being really dumb all the time), but effective. And you can call them great names. Your next build could be called Fridge Perry for example. I'm currently playing that mod whose name I can't remember (even though I was only playing it last night ) with a greatsword-wielding, full plate-wearing thug, and it's lots of fun to throw caution to the wind and just pile in. Usually to have my butt kicked by much stronger characters.
I took the half-orc bandit leader almost all the way without any buffs, but got my ass kicked by some kung-fu vampires last night.

Oh yeah - I almost forgot. Because of the build I'm using I've called my hulking brute Merv Hughes.

A nice simple Fighter 10/Dwarven Defender 30 build with maxed CON, heavy armour, dwarven axe and shield makes a very effective tank. Not the ultimate damage dealer, but oh boy do you last a long time between heals. Epic Damage Reduction I-III and the Dwarven Defender's damage reduction stack to a massive 30/- against all physical attacks at level 40. Take all the feats like toughness, armour skin, expertise, energy resistance, and you're pretty much unkillable through conventional melee attacks.
