Ah, I understand now

So, Black Ice, can you check if I am registered at GL? I joined a long time ago but never played a game with another GL player.
I have seen another paul hanging around in the cali12, but he never chats or acknowledges my presence, is this the same paulno1?
Another thing, thanks for the research Nimrod. In fact this whole thread has given me an incite into game play, thus improving my confidence.
The last 3 times I played on-line I was soundly beaten, the only game I was in with any sort of chance was with Black Ice and Gav, and even then I was starting to fall behind.* This led to the conclusion that the other players were not playing fair, as they were massively ahead. I know BI is a great player who does not cheat so when I compare other players I now set my standard by BI. In this way I know when others are cheating. But I was left with a sour feeling in my mouth which has discouraged me from playing on-line, especially when they totally denied it.
BI I am in favour of you playing using aliases to find cheats. But most cheats play under different names and barely converse during a game. I find that fair players talk between moves and get to know their opponents, it is this part of the game that I like.
*Actually this could probably count as another victory for Black Ice, as Gav was not really involved as he joined midway into the game. But not having another defeat to my name is also okay
Oh must go!!

Boney, there are certain players that will always cheat, and certain players that will NEVER cheat, if ever you are playing someone you don't know, let Blackice know who they are, and I am sure he can give you some Background on them- There are soo many honourable players, more than ever before, - mainly because Of Blackices Crusade against cheating- email any of us for a game, I would be delighted to play against you -
The more you play the better you get, it really is a question of learning some basic strategies, then tailoring them to your own style of game play.

Yes if you give me your GL name if it is boney then you no longer have a GL account. I will keep my GL account in the future but will let this one lapse and take a new name just to watch We have discovered a new cheat and are working out some fixes so far we seem to be clean of it. We will announce it soon and make people aware of what it does and how it works. Once you hear it you will understand how some of these "great" players win. Lets keep PBEM'ers clean and enjoy an honest days carnage Good gaming people.

I did, do the same thing Boney. Gav, Quinn, the list goes on are all great players. PBEM is full of great players it is a pleasure to play here and to get to know the people. Flames was one of the first players of that crowd that quit because of the cheating going on. Look at GL and look at PBEM we keep growing GL is dead. Seems more people prefer good honest, hard earned win and game playing to that of a quick fix.

So true the win is all that counts for some of these people too bad really. This game obviously can be very social and very much a challenge. Cheers I could not agree more I have met many good people world wide amazing really very much a compliment to the people who play here and the internet.
Gav, Nimrod this thread should be organzied and posted on a permanent site it would be a great referance to the game and the people who like even game play and tips.

Boney your welcome.
Gav, I probably wont be able to get to this till March, end of this current quarter, but I will be working on it between now and then. Any special way you would like it setup?
Blackice, anytime |
Nimrod, if I get a chance I will cut and paste all the stuff into shape - I guess the best way to keep it is pretty much how it is presently organised, Governments, Units, playing styles, individual strategies.... Relating how a game plays out is a pretty good read too!

Hey anyone want to test various stratagies? For example, if we wanted to see who would win between destroyers and submarines, 2 players start on an all sea, except for the grassland tile their cities are on, small map with 5 cities each, pop 20. Each one with volcanos, for mining, on one side, open ocean on the other, for fisheries. Goods on all tiles within a city's area. Granaries, aquaduct, mills, factories, oil refineries, market places, banks, and city clocks have already been built within each city. One player only builds destroyers and the other builds subs. Both sides have swarms in space they can use to take cities as long as there are no units defending it. Piracy, pillaging, and scienctific research should not be allowed.
Well?
Afterthought:
Can subs bombard and attack cities?
