Explanation of a "Rabbit" Strategy Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

While it goes by others name, in other forums, for other games, the concept in the same. The production of a massive amount of settlers at the start of the game to give yourself the most cities later in the game. In Call to Poawer it is possible to get 40 cities, the max for Theocracy, in around 50 - 120 turns, depends on # settlers at start and terrian. Then jumping up to 70-80 once you have communism or democracy.

In the discusstion thread for this subject found here http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...&threadid=65442
qunnis is quoted to saying "You must use what you call the "rabbit" strategy in your games or you will continue to get throttled by the top players. The "rabbit" strategy is not "a" strategy, it is a basic necessity. Don't do it, and you will get killed."
Try it out next time you play. It might improve your whole game.

Yes but when gold is falling and war is at hand and or in full force. The gold you save is worth more than the tech gained.

How do you make that transition from Theo to Democracy without everything turning to molasses for about 40 turns.

Turn to Mollasses?.hmm..well..yes you do lose some production but you gain a small science and growth advantage...kinda like give some-get some-lose some..me..unless i am on a city building flurry..never do i choose Democracy when a few more turns and you can get Fascism or communism...much bigger Bang for you buck...

Thats my 2 cents and of course, unsupported by any rational thinker...

No farm animals were injured or persuaded to do "Immoral" acts while testing above theory..

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I guess it always seems to be along stretch between 40 cities and Fascism. But your right, that is what I try for. But it seems like Theo runs out of gas before I get to Fascism and so I have to switch to Demo, and then it is just horrible. What is the optimal science order to get to Fascism. Seems like I never get the right stuff in the science window for along time. Is there any specific thing to avoid on science. Or do i need to go ahead and get Republic and Communism to break out of the dead paths I get?

Who knows for sure? But I go theo-demo-fascism usually. Commie just pollutes way too much with awful gold and science (it really is awful). Democracy gives a quick boost to Fascism if you can weather an attack during that low production time. I wouldn't ever go Monarchy or Republic if you want my opinion. Sometimes you can go from Theocracy to Fascism without the Democracy transition like Troll says. But a lot depends upon what your enemy is doing!

In my games your polluting Sins are Firgiven my son ..so thats not an issue....

But they way I overcome gold and science is this:

For gold put a city or two on Capitalization..a bigger size..
Now for gold-to-science issue..make sure your workers are on all goods in city radius..and also a few caravans will nicely do the trick..

Just a little input...

Plus with Democracy and War.. very bad with unhappiness...

I very rarely go to democracy unless I am not at war and if I have some very stout production with plenty of happiness improvements..

Thats my story..and I am sticking to it!!

What do you mean by running out of gas??/...If you have your workers on goods, tile improvemenst on goods where you can..MINES and also mountains and ocean...Caravans...lower your wages..on slider..max workday..
I find if I have a good infrastructure built up..I am usually cooking with Gas so that I dont have any missed beats..at that point..

Just give it a try, i didnt believe it, but the best of showed me the err of my ways!!

Communism and Fascism have exactly the same gold and science output. The difference is that Communism has half the crime that Fascism has therefore less loss in production, gold and food but Fascism permits you to allocate 70% of the gold output in science compared to the 60% of Communism.

So the more gold you earn the more Fascism gains in science but in low gold outputs the difference is not that great. With the appropriate micromanagement by the time you have Communism or Fascism you can have 3-5 large cities with science improvements and scientists and nullify the difference. It is possible to have a modern advance every 5-7 turns under Communism. And with its better production it is a very attractive choice. Yes, it has a huge pollution problem that can be successfully controlled as soon as you have Conservation.

What I DO LIKE about Fascism is even if not at War with someone, if they are "Saber-Rattling" I do some buildup of Fascists so I have a pretty good strike force if needed but when tanks are available start producing them, if need be, switch to Communism, losing those ornage-brown units that I just built up, for real, cannot beat them Jack-booted Kommrades

But I have to agree with Keygen, once you learn to harness the power of the Communism Engine, pretty tough to ignore the positives

Communism to Fascism Comparison:

Pollution: Communism 200% worse than Fascism.
Production: Communism 17% better than Fascism.
Gold: Equal
Science: Communism 17% worse than Fascism.
Military: Communism 10 turns to new war readiness, Fascism 7 turns to new readiness; Fascism has fascist unit; Fascism exerts two martial law per unit to Communism's one; Fascism allows 15 military to Communism's 10 before war unhappiness sets in.

It is a tough choice but that bad pollution pushes me to Fascism. Granted you can build pollution cleaners, but they are very costly especially if you happened to be at war and have to spend military funds on pollution cleaners. Just my two cents worth...

Yes, depending upon your government. I think that democracy is the worst for that, (if I remember right). Fascism is the best for allowing many units in the field without the people becoming unhappy. You will see it represented as "war unhappiness" or "war weariness" in your cities.

Refer to your "govern.txt" file to get an idea of the quantitative values of the different governments. It is located at ..\Activision\Civilization-Call To Power\ctp_data\default\gamedata.

I think the difference in production is a bit less than 25% but not sure.

War unhappiness is caused by military units stationed outside city radius regardless whether there is a war going on or not. I am not sure if there is another coefficient that affects happiness during war times (I think losing units in the front counts) but the above number that Steve refers to has to do with what I mention here.

Communism also suffers more unhappiness us the number of units above the limit stationed outside a city radius increases.

Generally Fascism in happiness issues seems to overrun Communism especially in war times but the larger production Communism offers that is critical in both peace and war times is something that can't be easily ingnored.

Well I still haven't heard any advice as to how to move smoothly from Theo to Commie or Demo. There is always a huge hitch in my PG when I switch, and sometimes the Civ almost gets out of control for about 50 turns. Then I finally get to Facism and everything is wonderful again. But it's hard to wait for Facism when your are siting there with 40 cities at about 1100AD.

Make sure you are trading all your goods and have gold improvements in major trade ciies, along with science improvements in large cities. This should keep your science going till you reach those other goverments. As for your dip in the PG, it is most likly explained by your anarchy period. Its sure to give your empire a downgrade in production, gold, and, most definatly, science.

First I must say I am disappointed at the lack of posting by us so called expienced players. Some of us continue to waste the newbies and bask on our self gratifying glory yeha, er boring...You having fun yet? When was the last time you were challenged....

This goes for newbies too Apolyton has we as active members, considered this to be the difference between poor sports, lame gaming, cheats and Apolyton. We are the most up front, honest and the best and that is and will be because we share knowledge in order to create great opponents and increadable games...

TELL ME I AM WRONG? I dare you so come on people this thread is just for this reason, use it expand create the monster you can not control

Yes some of us have learned a trick or two and continue to do so yet where are the post's? Some of us continue to remain at the top yet no post's on how we do it. Lame if you ask me. Ya you did'nt but life in the food chain. Eat r be eaten by your hand or others. In gaming I prefer others...Well self destruction does happen

Ok Ok we all like to win, human nature for sure. I would say though the real glory in winning is teaching someone to beat you then dispite the odds retain your tittle... Seems some of us do not like competition...Or hate to lose grow up it is just a game. Now repete after me it is just a game

To me the best competition is an even match of equally knowledgable opponents, duh!

Correct me if I am wrong but that is a stimulating situation as far as gamming goes...

My contribution for today is this:

For those that may or may not know check that little map in the far left of your screen.

In the case of ships this map can be awesome.
Lets say you have built radar and the like. You can see all ships, subs etc in this little map. Even without the radar and the like check it out.

Now without saving the image and with a little practice...
You can pinpoint the opponents ships, subs etc and lay waste to them with air units or of course your fleet. Try it practice it because at this stage in the game it can make a huge difference in your position in the game.

Ever wonder why some of the greats always have thier ships in thier ports? Oh ya you launch the fleet, yeeha away we go. Only to find once you get there your opponent lays waste to you in a matter of turns....

Cheers

Got spare money?

Once globesat gets launched most nations would be wise to store thier ships, troops in cities for defence.
Mind you add nukes to the fire and airports and forts are a good idea.

Which is why you see them then you don't in Youngbloods.

Hit and run tactics, hide and seek can be costly to the nation that is seeking.

There are so many different strategies and tactics in CTP, but here is a tip, for what it is worth ...

-- In a two player game, if you find the enemy early, and you have an edge in production, build only Samurai and Mounted Archer and wipe the enemy out early before they have time to get stronger.

Yes! Like in dual-duel! I know what you're saying Math... If you want to play a WAR game, then play dual-duel, otherwise play CIVILIZATION: CALL TO POWER. But if you are playing CTP to WIN, you are already at WAR, whether it be a war of military, production, gold, or science.
