Wig...a more interesting discussion would be which language has more great literature, "English or Spanish"? Would be interesting to hear a French or German person's opinion. Because for them, both would be read in translation.

I have read more French and German literature than Spanish lit. (all in translation) But to say there is nothing worthwhile in Spanish is silly. Of course you are a silly boy...

For some reason, though, we seem to have avoided most of the violence that's often associated with large minority groups. There have been a few instances, but it's almost entirely limited to vandalism of the "maudits Anglais" and "FLQ" type.

Texas/Tejas, México/Méjico... there are so many examples. Americans and Mexicans got to keep the old spelling, whereas in Spain it changed. Pronunciation is still the same though.

just try to take comments about the French language on the chin. For some reason you guys seem to be a popular target. I don't see it myself, in fact if given the option I'd prefer to know French much more than I do English. Just sit back and rest content that French is so damn complex that it takes foreigners a disturbingly long time to try and master it - it is a far more precise and eloquent descriptive language than many others.

I never fully understood why some of the more intelligent Apolyton members thought of you the way they do, and now I understand more clearly.

I lived in Ecuador for three and a half months with a native family in the city of Cuenca as part of an overseas studies program. After our course there, we had a study tour for ten days in Peru.

You go up to a Hispanic-descent person and tell them in their face, in person, that Spanish is pathetic.

Spanish is an important language on the par of English -- you are just ignorant about Spanish literature that has existed for centuries.

I am not Hispanic, and English is my native language, but I am intelligent enough to appreciate a foreign language. I have a lot more to learn about Spanish and speaking it, but I am trying.
