I would post, but it has been map discussions and you guys seem to have it under control. I only offfer my input when it is really needed. Whateve the map looks like is fine with me. I will be here when the comp gets underway. (at least until the beginning of June, at which point I will be pre-occupied until mid-July) Until we start, I am just trying to program my medula-oblongata with the appropriate instinctual ctp strategies.

nl is the on the bottom of my ping list, but still adequate. Most of the Euro players play there, so that is why I go there. I find the gameserve to be the best for play between North American players. There should not be an "official" server, the players should determine which best works for their match-up. I see no uses of playing Faded Glory on nl when I know gameserve or igateway would be better.

I vote for 3 settlers MINIMUM and 1000 or 2000 gold
2000 prefered to add another skill to the game. If we have 10 or so competitors we kinda need to speed the game up hence starting with 1 settler 100 gold is a stupid idea lolol. I dont care about pirating either way, just if you have it on may need to reload the game occasionally. Obviously no wonders

This is what I did:
1. Open the map in SP.
2. Bring up the chat thing with ' and then type "/exportmap map.txt" (Or whatever filename you want).
3. Start a new hotseat game (2 human, 1 AI) on the SAME MAP SIZE by pressing Launch Editor, rather than just Launch (probably best to do this with max ocean to make the next step easier).
4. Using the units dialog, locate and kill all the settlers on the map (If there are units around when you import the map they will turn invisible and you'll never find them).
5. Open the chat thing again and type "/importmap map.txt"
6. Place the starting settlers
7. Ensure both players have the appropriate techs
8. Reset LOS
9. Sort out the goods (which will have changed somewhat during the process of export/import. They will be on the right squares but might not be the right goods)
10. Press Save Scenario As as usual.
11. You know the rest...

Just be careful not to close the cheat dialog whilst in Hotseat mode because it won't open again.

I don't know whether this process is necessary, there might be an easier way to do it, but this is what I did - and it worked.

Anyway, how long does it take to get to three settlers from one settler in an internet one-on-one match? About 20 to 30 turns? About 10 minutes!! Is 10 minutes really worth crying about THAT much? [Here endeth my appeal for one settler, 100 gold start position. ]

Back on topic... I noticed that Pin also agreed with the one settler 100 gold start. Well, that's two of us... Here is what I have seen so far from the entrants desired starting positions regarding settlers and gold...

Starting Position Votes

Pin: 1 settler, 100 gold
Swissy: 9 settlers, 1000 gold
Paulno1: 3 settlers, 2000 gold
Quinns: 1 settler, 100 gold

I know there were other comments on this topic already, but I couldn't find the posts... Gavrushka, you're competing in this right? What is your vote?

If that is the case, since 6 people have placed their votes, if we started now, we have 23 settlers and 7600g all divided by g and we get about 4 settlers and 1300g. Does that sound like a good way to do it? May not work out very good for the people who want 1 settler and 100g but it would be the fairest way to go.

You've got to be careful... someone might choose more extreme values than they really want just to skew the average in their preffered direction. Also some people (e.g. Paulno1) said 3 settlers MINIMUM - does that mean 3 is his preffered number?

I vote for 3 settlers and between 100 gold and 3000 gold (preference would be 100 gold).

No wonders. Pollution OFF. No Barbarians. No addition tech other than the three basics. Piracy is optional, but probably best as No piracy. Pillaging is OK. Diety level of course.

As for the map, I STILL can't get my map to work as an MP game. Can someone try and get it working and then post a copy for the rest of us to play test? I haven't tried the New Map yet to see if I can get it to work.

Since we are still a bit away from starting, why not let Kansas in? He is a fairly good player. As for the auto disband city issue, I don't know how that one works. Personally, I disband any size 3 or less as it is about to be captured. However, I have noticed that some people manage to disband a city right after it is captured. Is it a trick? I don't know, but I sure would like to know.

Yoda, it is a trick - and I will find out how it is done- we were talking major resync city in a two player with God- I have every save, which can be examined - one way or the other the cheat will be identified and defeated. - But God aint good enough even with cheats to defeat the almighty Gavrushka....

I don't want Kansas in the comp unless he apologises for sinking my longship filled with women and children.........

I dont really think that there is an autodisband city trick. When I know a city is about to be takin over I pull up the city on my city screen and as they enter I push the disband button and it will work abit after the city is taken. Is that what your talking about?
