Americans on this board, I'd have to say 50/50, but that's my opinion.
Americans I know personnaly, pretty much 40/60. (known on boards, clans and because of my work)
But you know, I tend to stay away from ignorant people, may it be here or in the anywhere else. I had just to many bad experiences. Like last year, I was in Paris and I heard this American couple talking, Texan accent, and the guy thought that the Eiffel tower was a bigger replica than the one in vegas contrary to the statue of Liberty where France had a smaller replica...Pleeeeease, "let me slap him" I told my girlfriend. The first statue of liberty was made in france and the Eiffel tower is the original. I swear he was serious, he wasn't joking.
Second, I saw a game that was played in the streets in florida 2 years ago where a guy walks in the street and asks question to people and if they get it right they can participate in the real game in the Circus. The guy that asked the questions was walking around in the "terrase" asking people questions like " name me the continents on our planet" most didn't even know....and the worst answer I heard was "Us...and the others". I swear I could have killed that guy with no remorse...
And I have others....

Ignorance is something that I cannot take, it my biggest pet peeve. My way of thinkin is this: If you have no knowledge about something and know it and you keep on talking, dont be close to me, but if you are ignorant and know it and you keep your place, I respect that. I hate loud mouths. I am like that, in some threads on Poly I dont even DARE to post something cuz I know nothing about the subject and dont want to look like a fool. Before I get an opinion about soemthing or decide to boycott something you can be sure it's base on what I heard, seen and established BY MY SELF. I hate ignorant followers.

France worked to undermine a US course of action that we felt was vital to our security interests. As a result, some people were unhappy that a supposed ally would act in such a manner, and so some people boycotted. Nothing wrong with that.

Too bad for Spectator he is in a country of no importance that yeilds next to zero international influence.

I have to say in my limited travels (Greece, Ireland, Britain, France, US) I met an equal number of dim bulbs in all countries. None particularly impressed me as being considerably more intellectual, though the British might be a little dumber.

As far as I can tell, the threats mentioned in the arguement for war were threats to WORLD security, not US security. The rest of the world just wasn't sold on the threat.

I couldn't care less about French farmers. They are like spoiled brats too. Whenever they don't get the subsidiaries they want, they block the roads with farming machinery and throw tomatoes and artichokes at the police. Farming subsidiaries is the main disadvantage of being a member of EU.

There actually was a massive boycott against French wines a couple of years ago, when they tested nukes in the pacific. Did US take part in the boycott then? (I still bought some French wines, but not as much as I would normally do.)

Still, I don't understand why a war of aggression was so important to US, that you were willing to a screw up diplomatic relations with anyone to start it. Sure Saddam was a scourge, but he never attacked you, did he?

I'll sacrifice "country importance" anyday for:
- No metal detectors in junior high schools
- Being able to count my money when walking away from the atm with no fear of getting stabbed

- Not being patriotic for no reason
- Having bars open until 3 a.m.
- Being able to see the 4 seasons
- Having one of the least polluted country in the world (If the U.S. wasn't under us we would be first)

Well i have to give you credit for the 40/60 admission on personal contacts. You do have some dignity. It would have been easy to lie and discredit my arguement that way.

But that leads to two additional questions.
1. What is your opinion of the ignorance level of people that you've met from your own country and other countries. Is it higher or lower?
2. If through personally experience you've stated 40/60 why would you believe a survey over what you've experienced?

I can also share many experiences of seeing STUPID american, but to me, they are the exception and not the norm based on personal experience.

On not knowing where "france" is and the like. At my daughters HS, geography is required. I would bet there is less than a handfull of students that are as ignorant as the polls suggest. So I take those survey results with a grain of salt.

No I didn't know that. People say they stink more than other cigaretes but I used to like their taste. That is untill they allegendly shifted production from Greece to Germany and the taste got really screwed up. Sales dropped overall.

I wouldn't know how "turkish" cigs are supposed to taste.

A girlfriend of mine once gave me a 100's Marlboro which was made in Turkey (she bought a pack there) and I nearly caughed (sp?) my lungs out. It was very heavy. And not at all like Camel (or even Marlboro)

Well, a good chunk of the movie, music and computer gaming software industry is French owned, but few people seem to know that. Ditto the cosmetic industry. Lots of the planes people fly around in are Airbuses (granted, a multi-national consortium). Michelin tires (and their subsidiary BF Goodrich). Motel 6. RCA. Lots more.
