2230 BC played

Not much happened. I moved all three warriors and they revealed nothing. I kept the southern warrior adjacent to the hut in case we decide to pop it, but he moved east. We definitively lost CoDs scout.

Macaque to finish barracks on the next turn.

We need to decide what to build in Gorilla. It currently has the Pyramids, but I doubt we want to give it a shot right now, or do we...?

PC grows in 7, barracks ready in 7. Might want to change this.

Worker assigned to mine near Gorilla.

That's aobut it. I had a screenshot but lost it (had to restart my CPU). Now I'm too lazy to fire PtW again and also nothing much has happened. I can produce on on demand though...

What ius our long term startegy here guys?

Are we gonna be builders? Are we gonna be rushers?

I think we need to discuss this before we decide what to build. When I see barracks in tow of our three cities that leads me to believe we are going for some kind of eventual rush.

Are you guys getting tired of my questions yet?

The scout was north of our territory and the goody hut is in the southern tundra. we are waiting to pop the hut because we might trade it to the Cake Eaters.

My web server is currently down, so I can't put a pic of our current situation. However, if you go in the moves thread, you can see a relatively recent map of our territory.

I think we have to build, but without neglecting our military. Kind of like the opportunist team in the AU SG101.

It's not yet settler time in PC, because building a settler would take 5 turns and the city will only grow in 7. And it's more offective to build settlers with a 4 pop. city than with a 2 pop. city. If we can deal for pottery this turn, I support a granary in PC. That way, the barracks are just a pre-build.

2190bc turn played.

Units renamed as per namimg thread.

Cheetah has tuned around and is now heading back north until we reach decison with CoD.

Giles (hut) is moving SE to explore new land. He is now 1 tile removed from the hut.

Macaque is now producing a worker. 2 turns - will co-incide with growth. Other choices were warrior - 3 turns. Or num merc 8 turns.

Beta,

Did you offer anything for Pottery.

FP from CoD has not yet got back to me with a price yet.

I have never had to calculate this sort of thing before, but have come up with....

This pic is from the 4000bc save.
At 2 beakers per turn, it would take 24 turns.
That means Pottery costs 48 beakers.
1 beaker = 1 gold
One third of the price is therefore 16g.

CoD just opened the save, and has thanked us for our gracious offer of 25g for Pottery.

Arrian calculated the cost differently, and came up with 18g.
We decided to split the difference, and agreed on 17g.

They accepted our 25g offer, and have sent back 8g change.

Oh yes - forgot to mention that. I was sure the cost would be considerably more - so I sent 25 out of our treasury of 28.

As to the rusher vs builder business - I say builder. We have a great defensive unit to ensure we will not get rushed easily. We have OK land, room for expansion, industrious workers, and a great jungle barrier to the north - teeming with little apes. I say build.

I would suggest we lay out a new city plan - and lay down a series of northern cities to claim the land. I know this is hard on corruption, and takes longer than building close, but once our neighbours see our land, they may want to negotiate some for themselves.

Just a suggestion - this strategy of expansion over building cost Vox.

Well I could go either way. (builder or Rusher) I can go with the flow here.

But IMHO, we REALLY need to get the core down, at least the first ring before we go up north. I agree we need to put our footprint up there but the longer we wait to RCP, the longer it will take to give us benefit.

I have only done 2 games with RCP but the lack of corruption in the ring and its cumulative effect over the long term is really amazing.

Before RCP I always got my but kicked at monarch, with RCP and the tech broker route I was able to keep abreast of the AI in Monarch. in the tech race. I never did that before.

Now I dont know all the percentages and the facts and figures involved but I will say a solid RCP in the beginning has really helped my SP play.

And there are a lot of guys here who are a hell of a lot smarter than me. I cant believe with the caliber of people we have a Apoly that the Cake Eaters and Monty Python isn't doing the same thing.

I am so sold on this RCP deal that I would have gone along with a palace jump to get a better RCP. (I know we agreed not to do that, all Im saying is if we did do it, I would have agreed.)

Any way, I want to get up North as well, but not at the expense of establishing at least the initial ring.

The thing that REALLY bums me out is supposedly the RCP strategy will be fixed with Conquests, ah well......

Got to agree with con here.

Getting the core down is #1 priority.
We will never be able to keep pace with the other teams if we start claiming land with corrupt cities.

ISDG reference... look at CDG.
They were so intent on a border with Poly, they ignored their core and built corrupt jungle cities.
Poly had a similar jungle start, but was able to double CDG's production capacity by concentrating on the core.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

PS..

We have to build.
Our neighbors are too far away, and have scouts who will see us coming.

Demo games are ruled by diplomacy.
To war..even with a rush.. you need allies or at least agreements that other teams wont interfere while the bulk of your army is away from your core.

Yep, but I say that we complete the northern part of our first ring and then build straight away 1-2 cities to the north (where we plan our second ring), so that CoD knows where we stand. I think that our corrupt cities in the plains will still be more productive than our first ring cities in the tundra. However, I'm really open to discuss this...

I hate tundra

2150bc turn played.

Great news fellow Simians... another hut! Down south.

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Beta/Monkey-2150bc.JPG

Also - got our 8 gold back. And, changed build in Primate Central and Macaque over to granaries (10 and 14 turns respectively - less with city growth).

Northern warriors - Cheetah and Jojo- moved north one tile each. Nothing new.

IW in two turns. Whoever plays the turn next turn - REMEMBER to reduce the slider to the point where we get the tech in one turn. This usually saves some gold. I was able to reduce it to 80% this turn (going from -1gpt to +1gpt) and still get it in two. So I moved it back up to 90%. I expect an adjustment next turn should save 4 or 5 gold.

I think we should give the new hut to CoD and pop the first one, so that they don't see the luxury. I might be annoying with my map thing, but I think it will be worth it on the long run.

I think we are talking about two divergent goals here guys.

If we want them to pop the hut then we really shouldn't be trying to hide the map. The two really dont go together.

So if we want writing for the hut, we need to be willing to trade maps OR allow free exploration. If we DON"T then we will be at a disadvantage because after they pop the hut they will know a lot about us BUT we wont know a lot about them.

So if we go for hut popping in trade for writing, then I think we just have to go for free exploration or map trades. If not we disadvantage ourselves.

Cheetah moved north into previously revealed land.

Jojo border guard moved back to his prime spot.

Worker roading the now mined tile.

Southern warrior - Giles I think - moved next to the new hut.

Slider to 50% and IW still out next turn.

Granary in PC in 9 turns. Will be less with city growth.

Granary in macaque in 13.

14 minutes to play the turn, send , and post.

2170 bc turn played.

Writing received from CoD.

Also - IW researched. Unfortunately, I can see no iron on site. Fingers crossed about down south. And thank the monkey godz for Num Mercs.

I started cer burial. We can have it done in 5 turns.

Two granaries being built - as per last time. Nothern warriors moved north one tile. Nothing new.

And I did not pop the second hut. I think we should let CoD pop it as well. We have not discussed the second hut - but my sense is that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush - so to speak. If we can get a tech for it as well - lets shoot for that. I t sure beats a barbarian map of their region, or an angry horde of barbs.

Macaque grew by one in pop, btw.

Hmm - missed that point. con - tell them it is underway - it is only 4 more turns for c-burial anyway.

Warriors moved north - please clarify the exploration guidelines - can out eastern warrior - Jojo - also move north.

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Be...030bc-north.JPG

Worker moved to an enhance tile north of the city to mine and road.

In the south - Giles explored some more land - and discovered a barb.

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Be...030bc-south.JPG

btw - we need to decide on the other hut. Again - if we can get a tech in trade - lets do it.

That's it monkeys. Other than this great bunch of bananas I discovered. Here - try one of these .....

Giles in the south defeated a barbarian, but lost two hp's himself. I think next turn he should move onto the mountain and heal.

C-burial in 3.

Both granaries in 6.

We will need to decide on a build for the other city. It is currently building the pyramids. I would suggest barracks or temple. No rush yet for the decision.

That's it.

yah - that is what I was thinking - especially given our good relations with our neighbours.

We should eventually build one barracks, and a series of vet num mercs for defensive guarantee purposes. But I don't see anty rush to do it now. Unless.... we think it would be good for the CoD scout to see cities defended by Num mercs - sort of a public relations move on our part.

And guys - this just gets on getting better. A third hut!

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Be...bc-farsouth.JPG

I have our warrior on the mountain to heal after his fight with a barb last turn.

Also - in the north - warriors moved north-east and we have made contact with Python. Also - we can see the CoD capitol. Didn't recall that an embassy had been built. Must have though.

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Be...950bc-north.JPG

Granary in two - or three - I can't recall. Tech in 2. I adjusted the slider slightly - it can probably be adjusted again next turn.

So - we now have three huts to negotiate with, and Python to negotiate with. Btw - we do not have any techs to trade to Python.

Warrior jojo checks out the field of luxuries. Also note the python warrior sitting on the prime city spot. Will be interesting to see if he moves. We do need to start discussing border arrangements.

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Be...c-northeast.JPG

Warrior cheetah continues up the west coast. Nothing much so far.

http://apolyton.net/upload/files/Be...c-northwest.JPG

Down south - Giles is healing on the mountain.

Ceremonial burial is done next turn. Slider adjusted down to 40% - we have +6 gold this turn. (Total 20 next turn)

Granary in PC in two turns.

Granary in Macaque in 4.

We need to start discussing a settlement strategy. Also, Gorilla is still producing the pyramids. Any thoughts? I am OK to let it to continue to build shields toward a wonder. The only other logical alternative is a barracks to pump ourt regular Num Mercs.

And btw - can't recall this being discussed. Maybe it has been and I missed it. There is a corner of another landmass or island just visible out to sea of the SW corner of our territory.

Some comments:

Our worker needs a name
Our worker needs to road some tiles ASAP
Firstly, the tile he is on - Gorilla 8
Then Gorilla 6
Then Gorilla 3,3 if needed

This means that the next settler (From PC or Mac) can move to the next settler spot quickly. I assume it will be PC 8,8,8.

We definately need some NM's
Either a Regular now, or switch Gorilla to a barracks and then build some Vet NM's

Barbarians are Restless, so we should be getting a nice supply of camps.
25g per camp. NM's are far better at disbanding camps than warriors.

Plus, I dont see that we have any Iron.
So if we are going buider, Mercs are our best defensive & counter-offensive options.

Regarding the Iron....
I dont mind holding Panzer down, if you guys want to kick the crap out of him.

Barbarians are Restless, so we should be getting a nice supply of camps.
25g per camp. NM's are far better at disbanding camps than warriors.

I think we need at least one when the CoD scout will come by our cities (ideally). As Beta(?) said, it's kind of a public relations affair.

Regarding the Iron....
I dont mind holding Panzer down, if you guys want to kick the crap out of him.

Why don't we be more subtile and give him a couple of poisonned bananas?
