Argh!
I really hope that it works for someone because I haven't got the save any more. I definitely checked that I could open it when I'd finished playing and saved it, but we're in trouble if no-one can open it.

Not so fast there, speedy.

The barracks part of the remark should have indicated I was speaking of units available in the build queue. But if that exploring NON dragoon makes you feel stronger and safer start a war with the Greens.

Need some miltech. (Stealing Leadership for instance)

Oh, dear.

It won't load for me either. And the file seems to be too small for this game - @48Kb versus @450Kb. I thought it might be zipped, but renaming it to .zip didn't work.

Do you have any autosaves?

Never mind, you don't, because the game gets uninstalled every Monday, right? Tell me I'm not right...

Looking at the 1580 save and thinking forward....

It might be a good idea to boost lux to 30% so the Charybdis elvis can work the sea. This will allow the food box to fill a bit before the coming revolution to avoid stravation. Likewise, The Institute will need a harbor at size three or it too will starve during a revolt.

With so few cities every pop. point is important.

I'm afraid that I won't even have any autosaves because I turn that off, and just play from the disk these days, rather than installing and uninstalling every time. I have no more record of the game I'm afraid.
It seems that someone (Stray?) will just have to replay all of the turns. The fact that I've explored won't help me at all because it'll be ages before I get the game back again.

I'm just off to cry in the corner. Sorry everyone.

Straybow -- if you can't get to this soon, let me know (since the Jedi is occupied elsewhere) as I might be next. I'll be hosting family for a long (maybe week+) Thanksgiving holiday & my participation for the week following is iffy.

I can jump in today, Wednesday & Thursday AM, but after that...

(STYOM -- if the Duke's mixup isn't settled, maybe I should jump in tonight & carry the ball from La Fayette's save & Straybow or the Duke can play this weekend from there (?))

Unfortunately, it seems you're right, duke. I'm more worried about Stray (and others) benefiting from your log than you doing so, though.

Hopefully Straybow sees this and can pick up La Fayette's save without perusing the details of your turns.

Straybow had wanted to play, and he had been skipped before. OTOH, he hasn't posted since the weekend. So, give him until tomorrow (Wednesday), and then if he hasn't posted some intention to play, you should play your turns, OnS.

No, I shan't be playing again next weekend because I'm engaged in the technical department of the Institute for the next couple of weeks testing the boffins' new automatic butt-kicking engine. While all this is going on, I'll have to watch Clockwork Orange-style news footage of Civ games being saved until it is imprinted in my mind.
The game now goes to Stray who will be under great pressure to get the Statue (again ) and just maybe protect the rabbit's tail from Scouse buckshot. I managed to get the Statue, so it is possible, and will only require the spending of lots of cash at the right time. Go Stray!

The rabbit used to have some kind of electronic weapon that might have been a powerful deterrent
Now he has the high walls of The Institute. I guess that should be enough

I believe the Git's shotgun is loaded with rock salt. This is robust constructive criticism, not destructive. As it happens, I haven't read the log since I already saw the "can't load" comments and advanced to pg 12 to see how it was resolved (or not).

Will now d/l the 1580 save and go from their.

Put an end to popups!

Since nothing seems to be happening with this game (or even in the entire forum), I have downloaded the last save again. I may have time to play these turns again, and will try to get everything as it was last time, but obviously can't guarantee anything. If anyone else has already, or wants to play these turns then please do. We can continue with whoever is first to post a save of their turnset.

The (newly-crowned) prince o' york tries splicing the mainbrace, cuts it in half and so ends up rowing all the way from Polyphemus to Troy to take up his position at the head of the nation. Will he get there in time for the democratic elections, or will a rival have already seized the throne? Will audiences of today still be impressed with Harryhausen's claymation? Find out in the next exciting episode of Sailing Sivvers: Catching a crab?

How's this going to work if Straybow's already played some of the turns?

If he hasn't started yet, go ahead... otherwise we're just duplicating the turns.

Here is a replay of the turns I did before. I tried to keep as much as I possibly could the same, but there may be a few differences. I hope this doesn't compromise the integrity of the game.
If Straybow has played the turns then by all means use his save, and I'll edit this post to remove all traces.

1590 – Zulus nearly finish Darwin, Spanish Eiffel. Land spotted to southeast of Polyphemus!

1600 – Intombe builds Darwin. Zulus take Industrialisation & University. They start the Suffrage. Madrid builds the Pointless Tower. Carts abandon everything! Land SE of Poly seems really crap.

1610 – Carts capture Tugela. They too start Suffrage. Our scientists discover the secret of Democracy! To reward them for their efforts, they'll be looking into Mysticism next, but on 70% tax and only 30% science. Don't they know we've got a statue to build? I spot the hut that I got the dragoons out of before, and reload lots of times until I get more dragoons. I hope that this is in the spirit of the game. We could have had a size 3 city, a size 1 city, 100g or some barbs. I change Polyphemus from galleon to chariot. We have too many ships and not enough explorers to go on them.

1620 – Carts & Zulus sign treaty & ally against Mongols.

1630 – Movement, tickling, ship exploration.

1640 – Mongol ship spotted off northeast shore of Zulu continent. Tickling, exploration, slow movement of caravans towards Troy.

1650 – Movement of explorers, caravans. Poly builds chariot, changes to settlers. Having thought about it, I wish I'd built a dip to do our exploring, but it's too late now.

1660 – Zulus become a democracy, get Leadership for peace with Mongols. Institute starves back down to size 2 without harbour. Enough caravans piled into Troy to get Statue.

1670 – Athens builds settlers. Changed to temple. Troy builds The Lady! Chinese go to Shake’s. Troy production changed to caravan.

I've left it here, just as I did before. I have changed production to some more settlers, in the belief that once we switch to a new government form then we can get more cities built, and more trade from them. Just as I did before, I have chickened out of choosing a new government, so the entire turn 1670 is ready for the next player to move and change build orders as he sees fit. Many of the smaller island cities in the homeland are still producing caravans so if the next player wants to try for Mike's or Bach then we may have a chance of that too.
As I said before, I've tried to keep things just as they went last time I played these turns, but suspect that I may have taken a turn longer to build the lady than before.

Best of luck with your turns then!

I'll be off work from Christmas Eve until 5th January so I won't be able to play any turns in that time. Depending upon when I get a laptop then it'll take ages to try and sort out a home net connection so I'm not holding my breath for that, but if we can get enough turjns in between now and then I'd love to play on the weekend before Christmas because my girlfriend is going to see her parents and I'll have the whole weekend to play Civ 2!
