Good turns La Fayette

And good choice to wait on stirring up the Greens for a bit. Polyphemus is too small and undefendable now if they should spill out of their huts and flood down the peninsula.

This is for The Duke. Why not change production to markets and disband the camels to speed their completion. Definitely should go prefectionist, definitely.

Whoa: who let that peacenik in? Must be a refugee from one of the anti-Bush rallies! Burn him!
On second thought, you've made more progress by peaceful tech swapping than all of the RAR combined...

You don't have Mysticism yet? Then again, not many Temples, right?

Zulus aren't known for their great researching ability, so if this is what they have imagine what the Chinese have. Then again, Zulus have the GL, right?

--Sivians have 11 cities, 5 temples
--Sivians are rated Weak...up from the mire!!
--Greens have 15 white techs...not Magnetism though
--Greens have the #1 city in the world, Zimbabwe, size12 with three WOW's

1) (tech swapping) Glad you noticed it

2) The rabbit started several temples and I completed 2 of them IIRC (because I found nothing better to switch to, and I hope they will be useful after we switch to Commie and grow those cities like mad).

3) Yes the Zulus have the GL (that's probably the reason why they are 17 techs ahead, but the Spanish have no GL and are 12 techs ahead of us )

If we don't get SoL, I think our best strategy is to trade within the island core, maybe build some improvements (harbours) for the future. In the fringes of our nation, we'd be ICSing, hut hunting, and stealing techs.

Hey, if we miss the Lady, Mikes would be nice; a democracy with galleons & camels for trade, dips for "research", some ICS to flesh out the ranges...

Hmmm a temple, Mikes & xin -- might work even of we don't have commy to work with.

Of course, the question (in that situation) then becomes -- when to we jump to 'acquisition mode'?

I was sure it was gone and so just checked the save; I'm a little amazed that Mike's is still available. At least it's a fallback option.

The Spanish chariot appeared close to Polyphemus, apparently riding along the peninsula from northwest to southeast (exploring, I would say).

The tech (Demo) can be available within 3 turns. All 8 camels can be completed within 4 turns, with some incremental rushbuilding. The problem is that those camels are spread on 5 different islands and the only galleon available at the moment will be on the spot within 4-5 turns.
That is why STYOM and I think that one more galleon should preferably be rushbuilt and careful choice of where to build the Lady and how to transport all camels there should be done.
Careful planning could provide SoL within 6-7 turns. Careless organization could provide SoL within more than 10 turns (and probably losing it to the Chinese).

If I load the game and press return to be greeted with:

apart from composing a suitable obituary for -JR, then what direction ought we be looking in? Or is that my call?

Drama, Queens, Ladies, and Chapels, oh my Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Jrabbit doesn't have a monopoly on the DQ title, IMO.

Yes, we're way behind. Yes, SoL is by far the most useful wonder still available in this game - and the way the game has gone, it may be even more important than Lighthouse was.

Even so, we can still win without it. If we lose SoL and get Mike's, Republic/Demo are viable options. We'd have to disband a lot of units, but those disbands would go into Harbours, 'vans, Markets and whatnot.

And if we don't get either of Mike or SoL, we'll still win, though it will be long and painful. But the long arduous games are the most memorable ones, too

We'll probably get SoL, but let's not panic if we don't.

The largest city is size 6 and only one can celebrate at 60% lux. Which is to say, bigger cities (thru WLtPD) would be very good but where is the time and $$ to build temples, markets and courthouses and colosseums everywhere?? Though every city would have a start thru all the necessary disbands. There is no time.

I've decided to remove this post because it won't have any further bearing on the game and in the slight chance that Straybow hasn't already looked at it then that ought to make things a tiny bit more ethically sound when he plays.

I'm sorry about the rubbish turnlog, but I was trying (and failing) to build the tension. As I said, it was rubbish.
I also didn't achieve much else in my turns, but did some useful exploring and discovered what I hope could be another civ to the northwest. Carthaginians? I started moving one galleon towards the core cities to help with the camel movement, but by the time it got there it wasn't needed after all so that was wasted for ages. I also fiddled about with the galleon to the south of the Zulus because I didn't want to spend money rushing explorers there when I needed to rush camels back home. At one point I judiciously spent all but 2g, and then spent the time between the discover of Demo and the construction of the last camel at 70% cash and 30% science to try and get back as much as possible for big spending!
Well I spent a fortune and haven't achieved a great deal other than the Statue, but orders is orders so I hope that the rest of you can build on what little I managed and we can start taking some Zulu cities!
