I have a map here for any potential playtesters to advise me on!

If you think any cities need changing, please list new co-ordinates and I will make changes.

Also, Case or anyone well-versed in the placement of Australian cities, please give me some pointers!

PS
Ignore the city ownership, as it will be adjusted!

Here's the map - opinions welcome!

Technical items:

I'd move Minneapolis down a square. Bismarck is further north in the U.S. than Minneapolis.

St. Louis should also be moved down a square. Also, why do you put a hyphen in the name? I've never seen it spelled St-Louis. "St. Louis" works just fine

Salisbury (Southern Rhodesia) needs to be moved like in Vendetta II.

Lhasa, Thimphu, you've heard it enough times before to let you know they're in the wrong places and should be replaced with other cities. Korea is still bare since you're using the old DV3 map.

Now for some other details and such.

Walvis Bay was owned by the United Kingdom at the time of WWI. To simulate the South African capture and subsequent annexation of South West Africa, Walvis Bay should be moved either up one square and right one square or just right one square.

( Reference: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/cia03/namibia_sm03.gif )

South Africa and South West Africa has no desert area, where deserts are a significant portion of the region, particularly in the northwest of South Africa and east of South West Africa ( confused yet? )

Just discovered, Wellington is at the south end of the North Island. You have Wellington where Auckland is. It should either be moved or renamed to Auckland.

The significance of Kuala Lumpur was extremely little at the turn of WWI. Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 by 87 Chinese miners in search of tin. I'd considering getting rid of it and putting up a new city in Africa.

Of course, I'm pressing for more involvement in Africa due to the high demand of colonies still lingering in WWI. Take out Tallahassee!

For moving cities around, I'd get rid of these (in the order in which I saw them )

Yekaterinburg
Kazan
West Stalingrad
East Stalingrad
Krasnodar
Hammerfest
Arica
Lhasa (again!)
Thimphu (again!)

That's some pretty real estate for Africa, Curt

And one last thing, Monrovia should be moved over to the left a square.

* Belfast should be removed and Dublin should be used in stead.
* What about German East-Africa? 'Dar es Salaam' at 157,153
* Mosambique to 'Beira'.
* Isn't Guam were the Marshall islands should be? Which if so should be German. Maybe the Germans should have the Caroline islands as well?
* How about more colonial islands in the Pacific and less cities in S. America?
* Case probably know this far better than me, but I don't think Broome was a very big city back then?
* Maybe Japan will become too powerful with all those city's on the Japanese mainland?
* Trondheim to 138,42

That's a big improvement for Australia Curt The only sugestion is that Brisbane's population should be 1 smaller then as Adelaide's

Some other notes

  • Stalingrad not only is this city missnamed, but it was an unimportant city in WW1, and certainly doesn't need to be represented twice!
  • Saipan was Japanese territory
  • Brunei should be at (209,119)
  • Redo India. All of it. Every city is missplaced and the RR system is completly wrong.
  • A lot of remote cities are way too large. Singapore, Svestapol, Vladivostok, etc were all fairly small cities both now and in the WW1 era
  • AFAIK, there were absolutely no people living on Midway and Wake Islands at the time - these islands were developed to service flying boats heading accross the pacific.

Other then that, the map looks pretty good.

Curt,

Downloaded the save, a few suggestions.

North America: Florida looks a bit bent out of shape and the Great Lakes need a bit of re-arranging. Also, I'd like to point out that the majority of the worlds millionaires lived in Cleveland in the early century, as well as a good amount of financial institutions. It might make a better candidate than Pittsburgh.

Chaps are you sure we are looking at the same map here?

Many of the cities requested to be removed (like stalingrad, Tallahassee, Thimpu, saipan) are not there anyway.

I have also carried out a few changes that were suggested - and will contine on to move some of the cities!

Just to make sure we all have the correct map, here it is again -

Opps

* Dar es Salaam: 157,133
* German West-Africa: 'Doula' 136,124
* I'm still pretty sure Guam is misplaced. I think that would be German Marshall Islands.
* Guam would be around 235,105-ish
* What about removing Köln and have 'Brüssel' instead (132,60 or 133,61)?
* I still want Dublin instead of Belfast
* Mosambique to 'Beira'.

Curt, Thessalonica was the most improtant city in the Balkans at the time. Two Balkan wars were fought over her and Bulgaria only entered the Great War trying to get her back.
Remove Tirana for heaven's sake.Albania was declared independent from the Ottoman Empire, officialy, after WW1. Even so it was a tiny nation. Place Thessalonica at 143,69.

Moreover i think Trapezous should be at 155,71. Can't be 100% certain though in that map scale.

Bulgaria should be represented somehow.

And you have an airbase in Iceland?

Curt dude any chance you reconsider your decision to make this on a global map?

I mean the main war theaters(Europe, Balkans, Middle east) are somewhat crammed up. On the contrary there is plenty of "never to be used" space in China, Southern America, Ausieland, and the US.

Sorry man.

My criteria was a global map, as this is dictator WW1 -stlye.

But I am seriously considering following this up with a full European version using the same graphics, on a big map.

If you are up for it, I could ask you to help me create a fine WW1 Euro scenario - that give the Balkan wars the full treatment!

What say you?

A european based WW1 is ideal. Truth is the Balkan theater although occupying hundreds of thousands of troops was only considered a waste of resources.

I would love to help you man but i am leaving tommorow for a six month trip to our degenerated capital of Athens. Thats why i asked if you would have it ready by the 29th.

@Stephan
piss off Austrian!

P.S the Balkan wars you are refering to were fought on 1912-13, as a prelude to the great play of world war.
