Right, chaps!
Enough country comparisons!

I want a large group hug and good vibes restored!

Anyhoo, I am afraid to say, Pericles:
That it is unlikely that this baby will be complete for playtests till another week or two.

But the upside is that the extra time it takes will show in the final product,
and I promise to make that Euro WW1 scen whenever Pericles is ready. No big rush.
I have no plans to be going anywhere soon!

On another note, I am working on text files and the unit/map layout just now...

I'll keep you up to date!

Tired of ads?

Curt,
How ya been? Anyway, your comment on the prior page about making Dublin international is nonsensical as Ireland was only made into an independent dominion after WWI (think Easter Uprising, 1916). Of course, afterwards it completely split, but prior to WWI it was definitely a part of the UK.

Then to the Entente, Ireland shall go!

UPDATE:
The game and label.txt are both done, I have gathered all crucial sounds and will begin placing units tomorrow!

It's looking good - and it take 1.5 infantry to kill another infantry - behind walls it is even tougher.

Expect a massacre for every square-yard captured!

Events help needed!

Anyone willing to write some 3-5 line events for various major city captures and for the Balkan/Turkish situation?

I also need good events text to introduce the ANZACS, Morrocans, Americans and Canadians?

The help would be crucial to getting this scenario done sooner.

This leave me free to concentrate on other essential events and the unit placement!

Is there a typist/war-enthusiast out there to help me?

I'm on the case!!!

But are these cities going to have generic events or will they be aimed specifically at being conquored by a specific civ? Like say Belgrade falling to the Turks or will it be Belgrade falling for anybody at all?

Here's my first submission, for Canada and Australia's entrance into the war. Remember, if you don't like them at all feel free to let me know. I can change them however the need to be changed.

Canada
------

There was never any doubt that Canadians would stand side by side the British in this time of war. From the rich seas of the Maritime to the towering mountains of the Pacific North West, young and old Canadians alike have rushed recruitment centers by the tens of thousands to take up arms and fight for under the Union Jack. Canada will field some of the finest divisions in the entire British army.

Australia
----------

Once Great Britain's most far flung colonies, the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand have grown to become prosperous and rich nations with a generation of young and old men eager to fight side by side with their brothers in arms in England. The Australia New Zealand Army Corps will produce some of the most well trained divisions in all of the British army.

Nice, but not even Case will allow you to get away with "Austrailia". Wasn't it the Canadians who executed that remarkably successful offensive spearheaded by massive underground explosions?

What exactly are you after in the Balkan/Turkish situation?

This is probably too long for the fall of Constantinople, but you can excise what you need.

"With the fall of C'ple, the Sublime Porte passes into history, and the Entente forges a maritime lifeline through the Black Sea to the beleagered Russians. In the Anatolian mountains, a phoenix rises from of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire — Turkey. Led by Kemal Atatürk, it is willing to fight against all odds for independence."

Actually, in one of the wierder features of the war, not many French Canadians joined up to fight for the defence of France. Aparently the Canadian Government made a real hash of things and alienated the French speaking citizens by grossly over-emphasising the need to fight for the defence of the British Empire in it's propaganda. This mistake wasn't repeated in WW2 where, from memory, French Canadians were over-represented in the Canadian Armed Forces.

While Australia was a 'Commonwealth' AFAIK, New Zealand was still calling itself a 'Dominion' at the time of WW1.

Yep. The Australian Army tried the same trick on a number of occasions, all of which achieved little other then blowing up the Australian trenches

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

One for the Easter Rising:

Easter Monday, 1916. A small and bewildered crowd gather to hear P.H. Pearse read the Proclamation of an Irish Republic outside the General Post Office.

Subscribing to the old Fenian maxim: "England's difficulty is Ireland's opportunity", some 2,000 members of the Irish Volunteers seize and occupy several key locations around Dublin, where they dig themselves in and prepare for the inevitable British onslaught...

Another one for when the British retake Dublin (if they lose it).

In the end, the Volunteers are ill-equipped to fight the British; relentless pounding by artillery reduces the rebel defences (and most of Dublin) to rubble. Exhausted, they emerge from the ruins and surrender.

The British response is swift and ruthless. All signatories of the proclamation are executed, while the Volunteers are placed in internment camps in England. In the face of such brutality, the anger of the Irish people is re-directed from the Volunteers to the British, sowing the seeds for the War of Indepedence in 1919...

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Curt I took a look at the sav file. I agree that there are too many cities in areas that are irrelevant or anachronistic in Great War terms. It's been a while since I've read through the thread, so be patient if I'm just repeating someone else. My suggestions:

  1. Egyptian/Sudanese cities are fine. British control.
  2. Tobruk should be deleted. If you want, put in Bengasi a Knight's move to the NW.
  3. Add Medina (159,93) and end the RR there. No RR to Mecca.
  4. Add Alexandretta at 155,77
  5. Move Ankara to 153,73
  6. Found Beirut at 154,80 after changing to grassland or plains.
  7. Basra/Abadan (an oil city) at 162,84. Actually Abadan is the oil source, but it's smaller and falls within Basra's city limits
  8. Sahara isn't dry enough. Only the Nile and a coastal strip 1 square wide should be plains or grass. West coast of Red Sea should be desert. Desert should cost a lot to enter. Maybe your Arab unit should be alpine with a limited mf.
  9. There should be a load of mountains between Tehran and Baghdad with maybe a single pass. No elevated west of Baghdad, just dry, dry desert.
  10. Anatolia should have lots more hills. Should be really tough to go after any Turk city. Likewise the Balkans. >80% of the squares in these regions should be non-plains/grasslands.
  11. RR should go from Ankara to Alexandretta then fork to Baghdad and Damascus. From Damascus to Medina down the 157 column. NO RR's down the 155 and 156 columns.
  12. Arabian terrain is much too nice.
  13. Didn't someone mention populating German African colonies?
  14. I agree with others' lists of unneeded cities. Was Northern Norway on that list?

Been doing tons of work to the map, and following instructions from Boco, and others!

Also the Events is coming together well, and I am still taking suggestions for biggies like Moscow, Paris, London, Wien and Berlin!

Also I am tweaking the units as I go along, to try and make a generic Allied/central cavalry, for instance...
This will free up room ofr an new unit for Italy or the Ottomans.

Stay tuned!

Right chaps!

The final push towards 'Operation Beta Test' is near!

It has been delayed many times by that dastardly enemy, the University projects!

The mission:
I want you veterans to have a look at this map and tell me if you like the layout of cities and if you want to see any changes!

Here is the civ colour key!

Grey- German Reich
White- Japanese Empire
Brown- Russian Empire
Green- Kingdom of Italy
Blue- Entente Cordiale (hurrah!)
Light Blue- Free Nations
Orange- Ottoman Empire

Also, I would appreciate some ideas for some events action for the African regions and especially Khartoum and Egypt!

Once things are sorted in terms of events and the map, then it's on to unit placement and 'over the top' for playtests, by jingo!

So help me, and do your bit for the lads at the front!

Last one into Berlin is a rotten egg!
(or last one out of London, if we lose!)

Bloemfontein shouldn't be owned by the Germans, it should be owned by the Brits, it's Windhoek (which needs to be moved so it isn't a coastal city) that is.

Inhambane is a part of Mozambique, which was owned by Portugal, so that should be neutral.

Mogadishu was part of the Italian Somalialand, so that should be owned by Italy.

Constantinople, not Ankara, was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Baghdad and Basrah should also be owned by the Ottomans.

No Panama canal, Curt?

Japan owns Korea and Formosa, and I don't believe Taiwan at that time had any real commercial value, so I'd get rid of any high-trade zones there, if you intend on keeping it.

I'll hold off on any more stuff here, because you may already know this stuff and didn't need to hear it repeated. But if not, I'll continue just for the record.
