Nuc, you ought to contact CDG and let them know when we'll finish Philosophy. It's important that they finish CoL a turn or two before we do, and gift it to us. Make sure that they're ahead of our schedule.

Here is the link to a poll we agree for a trade in CoL with CDG.

You need to read this thread numerous times.

You need to read the topped FA thread several times.

You need to read all the other threads relating to Foriegn Affairs several times including those relating to PAL so you have an idea whats going on there.

Hopefully that will raise your situational awareness.

You need to be familiar with all of our agreements. And be able to find that information quickly so you can refer to it at the drop of a hat.

Hopefully then when CDG asks a question you can give a well thought out appropriate answer or come back and poll the team on what we should do.

So looking at the latest turn report, looks like we need to ask CDG to send us CoL. We should also tell them we are getting Philo in 5 and will gift it PLUS Republic (assuming we are the first to get it) to them then.

I assume that is the plan, and does not clash with PAL plans at all...?

No it does not. The agreement we had with them is we would honor our commitment with CDG which got us both Republic. (CDG and us)

Anything tech wise beyond the series of trades that got us to Republic we should discuss with PAL before we do it.

Now before you all go yelling at me for letting us get vassalized or whatever you want to call it by PAL just remember that they have a different perspective. If it was up to them we would have been choking CDG a while back. We just need to meet them in the middle somewhere. And personally after the Republic deal, I will not personnally support any more tech trades with CDG. After Republic we should be doing everything we can to weaken and eventually crush them. But thats my personnal opinion.

We will of course have to discuss the actual implemented policy on any further tech trades past Republic with CDG.

We should discuss that NOW.

This trade will be completed very shortly, and we're no where near the point that we will attack CDG. CDG is going to suggest and request other tech trades and we're going to have to respond.

My opinion: Let's trade them techs that don't matter. Techs that do not give them a military or defensive edge. Things like Polytheism, Currency, etc. I don't think it's wise of us to cut them off too early, we have to continue to string them along, because what we've done so far has worked. Their development is pathetic, their military weak, and their planning is all focused around long-term goals like the Great Lighthouse. They continue to be comfortable and at ease in their security. Let's not disturb them into defending themselves.

I would imagine they'll be interested in MM for the GL.

Two ways I think we can play this:
1) We "research" MM. This is devious, but if we do this, we might be able to get them to research something that we and PAL don't already have.
2) We suggest they research MM, and research something to trade in return like Myst and Poly. (Note: Last they heard we don't have math.)

1) would obviously be better if we can pull it off, since CDG's commerce would continue to help put us and PAL ahead in the tech race against the other continent. However, there would be the matter of explaining why PAL has MM once we traded MM to CDG.

OK have we decided when we will ready to attack CDG? That is going to be one of the questions PAL asks when this is brought up to continue tech trading past Republic.

I understand what we want to do. I need a plan to convince PAL its the right thing to do. That plan will include at least an approximation of when we will be ready for the kill..............

GK created a timeline showing when we could attack in this thread. Check it out. It roughly predicts turn 90 as the attack turn. That can be adjusted if we find ways to speed up our arming process, but much of that depends on the year we get our iron colony in place.

CDG will likely go for Mapmaking after CoL is finished. We should definately hook up a trade of Myst + Poly for Mapmaking + X. And just not trade with them until they get both MM and X. By that time, we should be right at the date of the attack.

Btw, does anyone know what turn CDG signed our 20-turn NAP ? I've been trying to locate it in the threads and can't find it.

As a note: We shouldn't remind them that it's expired. I'm just curious to see when THEY realize it's expired.

Also note: PAL just finished Mapmaking, but we won't be accepting it from them. GK rightly pointed out that we can build curragh's and upgrade them AFTER getting MM. If we get MM now, we lose that opportunity. We want to build several curraghs before we acquire that technology.

So we should explain to PAL about MM and perhaps make a deal with CDG so that they research it and we trade them for it. Whether we get it or not is irrelevant ... we won't care at all since we can get it from PAL at any time. We'd just be agreeing to aquire it from them to keep them researching harmless techs and to keep them on their course towards Great Lighthouse, not walls, barracks, spears, etc.
