With the most recent save (1325bc):

quote:
Greetings Great Lords of Babylon

I am sorry to not hear any word from you these past days... wow almost weeks.

The Blood Oath Horde are glad that we are allies and that we near the day when the Three Nation Alliance will deal the blows that caste Desolation Row off the island. Lord Beta, your initial words so long ago, along the lines of "this be the day that Desolation Row gets Voted off the Island - Survivor Style" are finally close to fruition.

My Commanders of the Red Guard General Staff, and the people of Red Guard Operations have looked to this time for a while now. All the manoeuvring, all the hassles with a certain other nation, yeah the Porkers, that have been put aside for another day, and here we are, all within a few short turns of some great victories. Joy and celebrations will certainly belong to the TNA when this is all completed.

I must admit that as hard as it was to extradite ourselves from the Porker war, in the long run, your words certainly have had greater wisdom. We have thus been able to concentrate greater forces and thus with all Three Nations we will have a greater victory against Desolation Row.

In other matters, I am happy to announce that we will have currency completed this next turn, and in the spirit of cooperation, we will be sending this along accepted. It is our hope that your fine people will be able to put this to use straight away, thus building your Nation to the Glory that is only becoming.

My Generals would like to coordinate with yours on the attacks, in this I have asked that Ambassador Plato be in contact with you. He will be your liaison with our Red Guard Operations people. At some stage hopefully we could get a chat between your Military Leaders and ours. Yet I understand you all must be very busy, as we have not even had another TNA Summit, nor even an email back to the few I scoot over from time to time.

Hope all is well and that Babylon grows strong and happy

Greetings my friend. Thank you for your note. I apologize for my absence, and the lack of communication. It is only indicative of my busy schedule and nothing else.

However, as our horsemen travel the plains to join the great crusade, an issue has come up. We have noted your recent alliance with the Anhk-Morporkians, which surprsingly includes a ROP agreement. Can you please advise as to what is up with the Porkers, and your relationship with them. I'm sure you can appreciate our reasons for asking. Many thanks.

We await notice from Plato as to a meeting of the generals.

Yours truly...

Wow! Here is a response. And a bit of an over-reaction. Paddy may be into the merlot. Otherwise, we have certainly touched a raw nerve.

quote:
Hello Lord Beta

Ahhh so are you the only person in all of Babylonia that has communications then?

An issue - the RoP agreement with A-M, not quite sure how this is an issue to you or your people. Happy to bring you up to speed. You and The Bards made many statements about the Horde being not commited to the war with Desolation Row, that the Horde were over committed, ok these may not be your exact words - happy to re-read all previous correspondence for your exact statements if you require it. So the Horde took the advice and secured peace with A-M so that the Three Nation Alliance could move on and secure the objective of Desolation Row.

Peace was made with A-M to keep you, Babylon, and the Bards happy at that time. At the beginning many of the Horde were not entirely convinced to this matter, yet when weighed up on the fact that DR would be removed, peace was sort with A-M. Only later did more of the Horde become converts, especially as the Bards Stack of Doom and the Horde Army Group East were tying up massive numbers of Desolation Row troops, and we could see Units of the Babylonian Horse moving to the war. Knowing that the guts of DR land had to be open for your forces.

You say I can appreciate your reasons for asking about the peace with A-M, actually no, I do not, at best you confuse me. How is it that a peace you asked for so so long ago, is now suddenly such an issue? This peace is certainly no new thing. Have you only just discovered it? Truely I find that hard to believe.

So what are you saying here Lord Beta? What underlies this message, that you are not going to attack DR? You were an major part of this entire matter.

What are you doing Babylon? You are a member of an alliance, the Three Nation Alliance. Stand straight, and join in the war you helped to start.

My people embrace your people in peace and happiness, we enjoy the fact you are there and we hope that you are growing prosperous. All the more reason to be sending you the technology of Currency accepted asap.

Interesting, actually you do not even mention Currency...! Why not? Should I question everything you do and do not say? Not a good alliance at all if that be the case.

On behalf of the Red Guard Operations (RGO), we would be interested in know where your "1st Babylonian Battle Patrol" is at the moment, thank you.

Hold True Babylon, Hold True and Desolation Row will be hurt bad.

Well I have written much here, compared to your few lines.

Be well, and may the Three Nation Alliance hold true,

Paddy

My response...

quote:
Paddy..

Yes, it would appear that I am the only foreign affairs person in Babylon. We had some others involved earlier on, but they had an absence, I took over, and then I have not been around much the last few weeks. So again - my apologies for the lack of correspondence.

As to my note and your response ...woah my friend.

We were and are happy with the peace deal which was struck. But as stated earlier, and I stick by it, the TNA to us is more than just an anti-DR alliance. Thus we look to the future, and the geo-political situation post DR. Babylonian's were somewhat surprised by the ROP agreement with AM, and what it represented for the future. Hence my question. And in this light, a fair and legitimate question you have to agree.

Our troops still prepare for battle as discussed.

And to be honest - I do not know where the tech deals stand at this point in time. I have not had time to review them. My first job when I was back was to figure out what was going on with AM. But I can assume that if Klo has worked something out, we will stand by it.

Regards, and honour! ....Beta.

Edit: Crosspost with Beta's response.

Yikes. We don't seem to have gotten across that it is not the peace per se, but whether AM is now under BOH's thumb - IOW, we are worried they have managed to pressure AM and have gotten the power of 2 civs instead of just themselves. IOW: just what the heck is that ROP for, and are they now the most powerful civ in the game with a vassal by their side?

Re-reading the message, we did not ask about the peace. We asked about the RoP and the seeming alliance. I must wonder if he himself is not trying to wriggle out of things as he accuses us of doing so.

I think we should be blunt with them about it: "Have you vassalized AM? Just what do they owe you as part of the peace settlement?"

The case of allies knowing what each do in war is not bad. I don't see any reason why to not tell them. What else do you know to always be so negative? You are a builder? If the real dog of war unleashed at last, do they go blind folded? I read many here want the TNA, while we don't declare otherwise. The case you put up is that we are suffering as fools to Paddy and BoH. Are you a warrior?

It is either a case of:

1. they really don't get it (whioch is entirely possible IMHO - Paddy is fairly new to MP demo games and I think he has not yet figured out all the nuances)

2. they do get it and are trying to cover their tracks.

I will assume it is #1, so I will be very blunt with my explanation.

ah - a later message from Plato with more information....

(note the AM response for a comparison)

quote:
Greetings Lord Beta,

A real pleasure to hear from your great people. The mighty TNA is certainly the force of this world!!

I wanted to add a word to the Khan's explanation of the ROP with A-M. First, do not be concerned with this part of the peace deal. Let us say that there were certain protocols that we required of A-M and that we have troops stationed within their boarders to ensure these are met. We felt that the free movement of our troops among their lands was the best way to achieve this while minimizing our committment of troops. This agreement has allowed us to free up more troops for the TNA. Rest assured that when the time is right, we will "release" them from this obligation.

On to the matter that is before us all. The great war to enforce DR being "voted off the island" (that really was great stuff!!). Can you provide times over the next 3 days when you would be available for a conference with our generals? If you would give me available windows of time, then I will co-ordinate with Red Guard Operations to ensure that we can meet your time table.

Time is of the essence as Red Guard Intelligence may have discovered a weakness in the DR defenses that would require quick action to take advantage of.

Our people revel in the joy of having Babylon as our great allie and we all look forward to working closly with you in the coming times!

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I'm not saying that we are acting as fools or anything like that, but there is something going on that doesn't quite smell right.

And as for Paddy being reliable to alliances ad such, that is all well andgood, BUT, Paddy IS NOT BoH, he is a Member of that Team and their Leader but he still has to bow to the team's wishes. So you can't entirely take his past deeds to full heart.

And another thing, he did betray an alliance that I had with him, but because he was already the vassel of someone else. It was in the C3C Tourament game, with Bigfree (Dutch), Paddy (Japan), OPD (Korea) & me (Persia). I had come up with a tech deal, to get myself, OPD and Paddy into MA and leave Bigfree (the 900lbs gorilla in that game). BF was a treat to everyone, I had lost 2 pop very early to disease and OPD had taken over from Sir Ralph.

I had had several e-mail conversations with Paddy about the situation with BF, and the opertunity of all 3 ofus going against him, especially with BF moving troops towards OPD wasan opertunity for us to getan advantage over him and Eliminate him. It would have been long, it would have been bloody, but we would have succeeded. BF was behind in several techs and I had everything but Rep, Mon & Const. Paddy had everything but Rep, Mon & Currency. BF was several techs behind and I had been in a trade partnership with OPD for some time.

I had worked out a deal with Paddy to get all 3 of us into MA. We traded the techs, I got Feud as the free tech, and OPD did too. We then traded it back to Paddy (as part of the deal). OPD was backstabbed by the game, as he had a age change barb horde pop up right next to his Iron (which he was just about to connect and upgrade to help fight BF). And Paddy broke the deal by giving ALL of those techs to BF.

The Idea was to get far ahead of BF, enough that even with the much reduced tech costs, it would still give us plenty of time to all come at him. Keep him from getting his UU for as long as possible and all attack BF and take him down. Then, it would be just one more to be eliminated and that would be decided on later.

But it had turned out that Paddy was BF's Vassel. Now, you can say that he had an alliance already with BF, but then, he shouldn't have agreed to make the deal and NOT to pass on the techs.

So, yeah, I don't entirely trust him, especially when he might not be in full control of his teams desisions. I can still learn to trust him, but now when it seems that there is something that is being hidden.

AM says BOH is withdrawing troops.

Since AM and BOH have an ROP, have BOH send us screenies of AM territory. Then we can watch the BOH withdrawl. BOH should have no problems sharing info with us a trusted ally.

ChrisiusMaximus is a BOH member too, right? This sounds similiar to his style of dealings in PBEMs... I know Paddy values his viewpoint...

His diplomacy is too direct and confrontation and may be filtered through PLATO and Paddy -- still, the sharp edges may be showing through. I would urge extreme caution and suspect the ROP to be a strategic tool against us at some point in the future.

What they say makes sense. BOH occupying AM simply to ensure peace would be enough of a reason, and enough for BOH to get AM to lie. This could be all there is to it.

It is far from the only thing that would make sense, though. I would ask them flat-out to tell us what they required of AM under their treaty. PLATO's use of the vague term "certain protocols" still leaves me suspicious.

At this point, I believe there is no reason to sever the alliance.

Hello folks. Not usually the one to do diplomacy, but I figured it would be important to get this screenshot out in short order. Babylon has now grouped 4 horses at the spot BOH suggested, with 1 more joining them if we wait another turn.

DR has spotted one horse we initially moved a mountain up with. (This revealed a vet Immortal defending Aquarius.) It's possible they've spotted the others by moving a horse out of Aquarius and then back in, but otherwise they remain unseen.

Where are your forces? Any information on the opposition?

Greetings Great Lords of the Three Nations Alliance

Well the years certainly have passed since we first met for the Summit that formed the Three Nation Alliance.

The Three Nation Alliance now stands on the brink of smashing into the enemy - Desolation Row.

Horde Red Guard Operations offer up the following as proposed time lines for cordinated attacks upon DR.
Thank you to all parties for the information that allows for this plan to be put forward.

1300bc
BoH: 20 units move 1, Horse Mjolnir moves 1-2 joins the stack (red lines)
Bards: Bards attack and capture Invictus (yellow line).
Babs: Babs move their 4 horses close to Aquarius (blue line)
DR: (possibly) Their stack moves along the light green line.

1275bc
BOH: 10 horses attack Antioch (dark red line).
Babs: Babs attack lightly defended Aquarius (light blue line).
DR: (possibly) Their stack moves along the even lighter green line. They can't make it to Antioch in time.
We await your replies.

May all be well with you and your mighty Nations.

They have 20 units (are they all Horse?? atleast 10 are) in their Expeditionary force. And they supposidly have Units still in AM area and whatever is still at home.

Why did they need us to be there, except to be bled off somewhat. But I digress.

There is also a JPG, but it's too big to be attached directly.
