We agreed there was no reason Zargon wouldn't have moved Gourmand east, and so Sharpe did so first (since if we hit the 1% chance he was wrong, he could absent himself from discussions on Gourmand for a few turns). It is the correct move, as Gourmand made contact.

1700 BC:
-Gourmand S (then E?)
-Busboy S
-Big Eater N
-Fat Bastard S
-Hayseed S
-Farmer roads
-Waiter: if damaged, S to the gold mountain to heal. If not damaged, W (NW if there's a barb W)
-Fatty: Fort if damaged, otherwise NW to the hut
-Pointy fortifies
-Fork NW, settler NW (note: if the barb moves to this tile, I think we should just blast through. trying to go around'll just let him into our core.)
-New warrior in Buffet to be named "?" and forts
-Spork (Buffet) moves S-SW to Chow and forts.
-Spoon (Chow) moves W-SW to Dim Sum and forts.
-Chow WF works cattle, wheat, lake, and bonus grass E. (Note: if the forest was not worked, Chow will not have enough shields and WF will need to be adjusted to work something else, hopefully just the plains to bring production to 5 shields.)

Some changes:
-WF: Chow needs to switch to a worker. Unfortunately, the idiot governor worked the wheat, so Chow will need both bonus grasses to complete the worker. That means Buffet works the furs forest instead of the bonus grass SW of Buffet
-Fork and the settler have their passage blocked. I think Fork should attack. Opinions? Small risk here, but it'll just be more trouble to deal with this guy later when he's near our terrain.
-LL offered us IW unaccepted as per our deal. Due to the order of the turn (FAM, then research) we must ESC out of the diplo screen and then offer Math on our side as a new trade. Should we send it accepted or unaccepted?
-The barb warrior by Fatty moved onto the hut. I think we should attack here, too.
-The barbs near Waiter both moved on to the mountain. I think Waiter should continue his explorations by moving W

Edit: Also, we have a palace improvement. We decided on improving the cave in chat, but since the turn isn't played, this can be changed.

I think it would be risky to attack the barb on the hut - with our luck we would trigger barbs again (we haven't been as lucky as Sunshine with our huts... sigh) so I would wait and come back for it. We can't risk having more barbs roaming with a new city being founded relatively nearby IMHO. I would move S and come back to the hut when the barb isn't on it.

I agree with moving Waiter W

I agree Fork to attack - if he is badly damaged we can move Pointy to go with the settler.

Given the "fun" we just had with Togas re the math trade - he essentially refused to budge from a math for IW deal IMHO, not sure what we should do with that IW deal with LL.

Looked at the latest turn - accepted the completion of the Math for IW trade with Latin Lovers.

So here is the iron situation:
1) Closest one is SW-SW of the wheat near the narrows
2) Another one is SE of that hut in the west

Basically not good IMHO. Both are at the edge of what we consider to be our area.

Sunshine unfortunately has one close to home (and perhaps more since we don't see most of their area) conveniently placed near those 2 incense...

Turn is with us:

-Sunshine did not offer writing
-Warrior in Buffet to be named "Big Gut"
-BG S-SW-S to Dim Sum
-Farmer N-NE-E back towards Buffet
-Planter NW
-Hayseed roads
-Harvester roads
-Fork fortifies
-Settler founds "Won Ton"
-Won Ton set to build worker
-Waiter NW
-Fatty N (back to the hut!)
-FB S
-Busboy SE
-Gourmand SE
-BE N
-No WF changes

These are my proposed moves. I'm going out for part of the evening, but I'll play the turn when I get back. If I don't here any objections, these are the moves I'll use.

I would recommend that BigGut instead go after that barb warrior - admittedly might be at a disadvantage with the river, but we can't afford the risk of the barb pillaging that square.

Also I would recommend Gourmand NE as I would like a better idea what is around that Latin Lover city (we won't get the chance later I bet).

Yikes, MAST is closer than I would have thought! Although I do agree that there is a need to settle the west, it might be an idea to also move east to avoid the other civs claiming too much towards Tabemono!

Also need to choose what to build in Buffet next - probably another spear would be best.

Btw, why are we researching Polytheism when we have heard that LL is researching it? Given Sunshine's refusal to trade anything for math so far, might be an idea to either finalize a trade with Sunshine for math, or to start researching something else than polytheism (which I guess we can trade for later on ?)

Chow Mein is off its 2-turn growth cycle once more. Oh well

My suggestions:

-Busboy W
-Gourmand S
-Fat Bastard E or S
-Big Eater N
-Fatty NW
-Planter roads
-Farmer NE-N-NE to mine some tiles for Buffet. Allows 10spt to be sustained in both Roll and Buffet even once Roll reachs 10 spt potential, and will also allow Buffet to grow faster regardless of Roll's potential
-Warrior in Buffet to be named "?" and moved NW-W-W
-Big Gut ? (Not sure what he's doing. Investigating the NE thorughly?)
-Waiter N
-Egg Roll citizen on the non-river bonus grass moves to river grass N of city
-Buffet citizen on furs moves to SW of city (more growth)
-Chow Mein worker on forest moves to furs
-Change Dim Sum build to a worker
-Change Buffet build to a spear; we're approaching the support threshold again and I think we have enough warriors for now
-What to do with research? I think shut it down for now

-Salt S-SW-S
-Farmer NE-N-NE

-Busboy W
-Gourmand S

1600 BC:
-Pointy (W of Dim Sum) and Big Gut (Dim Sum) to be deployed depending on barb movement
-Planter W-S to continue the road to the horse if possible, depending on barb positions and western troop deployments
-Hayseed mines (or moves SE and mines depending on barbs)
-Harvester SE-S-E - start a road to the south
-Farmer E to mine the bonus grass
-Salt to adapt to barb; attack if possible, otherwise move S anyway
-Fatty to fort if damaged, otherwise pop the hut (if popping, switch Chow to a temple beforehand)
-New warrior in Buffet to be named "?" and moved NE to cover Farmer
-Big Eater N
-Fat Bastard S
-Gourmand S
-Busboy NW (or S if we want to toe MAST's border. This would likely get us a look at one of their cities)
-Buffet to switch build to a spear
-Chow citizen on wheat to switch to the lake for an extra commerce. Growth should still be in one turn; if not, keep on the wheat

Anyone else got the save? I don't.

Also, one addition consideration for the turn: Sunshine will hopefully have put Writing on the table and accepted. (Though maybe not accepted; depends on when exactly it reached the passing point, which I'm not clear on.) At any rate, I think we should send them Math, accepted as a gesture of faith, regardless of what they have on the table.

Should we pop the hut with Fatty? This would leave a reg warrior on grass next to a barb conscript. While the difficulty's anti-barb bonus makes this warrior like a legion, it would be dangerous for Fatty if he popped Barbs.

Opinions? Sharpe and I are playing the turn now and it's 1 vs 1 on popping the hut this turn. Please post opinions, or better yet join us in #tabemono on IRC

1575 BC:
-Fatty ? Depends on barb situation.
-Waiter SW, checking for Barb camps
-Big Eater NW
-Gourmand W
-Busboy N
-Fat Bastard S
-Salt S to watch for barbs approaching Harvester
-Harvester S-S
-Farmer mines
-Planter W-S
-Pointy W-S to protect Planter
-Big Gut SE
-Egg Roll worker on the bonus grass NE of the city to the bonus grass SW of the city
-Buffet citizen on bonus grass SW moves to the now-vacated grass NW-NW
-Chow Mein WF works wheat, cow, bonus grasses E and N, and lake. Buffet should have +5 fpt with the settler completing in 1 turn
-What should we build in Won Ton?
-Where should we send the settler coming up in 1550?

Also, I think the new worker from Dim Sum coming in 1550 should be used to road (and may mine) the tiles N-NE and N-NW of Buffet. Once he's done helping up there he can road to and colonize the Incense; we just need to find a spear to protect him. Sound good?

Edit: Sharpe suggest Big Gut SE which makes sense
Edit: Added Fat Bastard

Hehe, and one more thing (I need to be more thorough before posting plans): The new spear in Buffet. Name? Direction? I think "Sharp" (about time we used that name ) should go NE to protect Farmer and to eventually escort the Dim Sum worker to the incense. Spork in Chow can be used to escort the settler, and Buffet can build another spear 2 turns after Sharp, in plenty of time to bring Chow back up to 2 MP in preperation for size 5.

Turn looks pretty straightforward. We'll need to move Busboy NE instead of directly N because of a LL warrior in the way. Also, Fatty is undamaged (and unpromoted), so I think we should send him S. (Waiter can uncover the area W of Fatty in his downward anti-camp sweep)

I'll play the turn soon. I'm in #tabemono on poly IRC

-Waiter S (checking for barbs and/or camps)
-Fatty: If barb warrior still there attack SW. If damaged and not in danger of another attack, fort. If barb warrior gone and Fatty not damaged, move S.
-Salt fort if damaged, otherwise E to check if the camp is close in to our core somewhere SE of Buffet (I think we should ignore the warrior for now; it's not much of a danger and can be eradicated if it moves closer)
-Fat Bastard SE
-Busboy NW if possible, otherwise N (picking up the area left untouched by FB)
-Gourmand: W or S?
-Big Eater N
-New worker in Dim Sum NE-E-S to help improve the S (Buffet can finish building the spear, then do a warrior, and then a worker on the 3rd turn just as it grows to size 6; this worker can be used for the roading and incense colonization instead of the Dim Sum worker with a comparative delay of only 2 turns)
-New settler in Chow moves ?
-Spoon (Chow Mein) follows settler ?
-Chow works Wheat, cattle, and the bonus grass E of the city. Starts another settler

Put an end to popups!

Ok, went ahead and played the turn. Sent the settler north to the furs, as that was the general concensus when last we chatted.

The sunshine warrior had backed off to the south, and a horse-barb took the place of the barb warrior. With any luck, the horse barb may attack the Sunshiner and solve that problem for us

1525 BC:
Cropper ?, depends on barb horse; move S-SE in order to road if possible, but if this would mean leaving a worker exposed, S and irrigate instead
Hayseed SE and mine
Farmer mines
Settler E-N
Sharp fort
New spear in Buffet to be named "?" and moved NE (this spear can accompany the new Buffet worker to the incense; the next spear, 4 turns after this one, can be used for the next Chow settler)
Fatty Fort
Salt ?, depends on barb horse
Waiter SW
Big Eater ?

We have the save - I don't think we lost any units, but 1 of them took some heavy damage.

Our spearman Spork is down to 2/4.

Plus due to our attack, Fatty is down to 1/3.

Might be an idea to send Spork back to Chow Mein and replace him with Spoon (with the road in place it shouldn't be a problem to do this).

As for Fatty, might be an idea to rest him for a turn (or even 2 turns) - however he is too exposed right now (i.e. we have seen a lot of barbs around, so there has to be a camp nearby) so it might be an idea to move him east to the hills and then help him recover. It will slow down the exploration but now Big Eater and Waiter are also on their way so it won't hurt as much.

-Switch Dim Sum build to a settler Reasoning: We're running up against the maintenace limit yet again. This should help slow the rise of maintenance costs, will provide us with a settler eventually which can found another maintenance-freeing city, and will let Dim Sum get back to the 5-turn worker cycle by leaving it at pop 2 after the settler finishes. The downside is less workers, but I think we can deal with one less worker with one being produced by Wonton in 4 turns.
-Buffet WF on bonus tiles: NW, SE-SE, NE, NE-E, and NE-N. Buffet should be at 10 spt, 2 fpt. Switch build to Spear.
-Make sure new Chow citizen is on the lake rather than a forest or plain
-Send math accepted to MAST
